Wedding Photo Booth Hire - Everything You Need To Know

While wedding favours are lovely, there’s no big day souvenir quite like a wedding photo booth printout. Guests love tucking their snaps in their bags as a keepsake from the day, plus you can print out extra copies for them to stick in a scrapbook and scrawl heartfelt (and drunken!) messages next to.

Not only do they produce instant mementos, but wedding photo booths also act as entertainment on the day, too, with everyone piling in and posing for snaps in the props. As with many elements of wedding planning, there’s more to wedding photo booth hire than you might think – from the different types of booth to how much they cost (and if it works with your wedding budget), we break it all down for you in this article.

The newest innovation in wedding photo booths is a digital booth, which allows you to edit your background, transporting you to a variety of different locations – you could programme it to include sites you and your partner have been to, for a personal touch.

One of the biggest benefits of these booths is that the photos are instantly shareable, sent directly to your guests’ phones. The only negative is the price varies wildly, with quotes ranging from £150 right up to £800.

What’s Usually Included in a Hire Package?

Wedding photo booth hire comes with different add-ons. Traditionally, they came complete with an attendant to work the booth, but if you’re going for a mirror booth or a digital photo booth, you might not need someone on hand, as they’re fairly self-explanatory.

If you opt for a 360 booth, it’s likely to have an attendant, as people are less familiar with these set-ups and will need help getting to grips with it.

Photo booth hire normally comes complete with a prop box of wigs, hats and more – but if you want something specific, you can always add to it.

For getting your hands on the photos, some hire packages include unlimited prints, while others offer digital only. Unlimited prints are best for guest experience, though digital is fun for sharing online – especially as these are often instantly available.

Some photo booths also come with online gallery access, so if this is important to you, make sure to ask the vendor.

The final inclusion is custom branding, which can be added to your printouts, including your names, your wedding date, and even the venue location, if you like.

How Much Does Wedding Photo Booth Hire Cost in the UK?

Wedding photo booth hire prices vary significantly, with most costing between £350 and £1,200 depending on how many hours you want it at your wedding (normally just the reception) and the type of booth you want.

Open air and AI or digital booths tend to be cheaper, as they don’t need an attendant. At the other end of the spectrum, 360 photo booths will be priciest, as these are the most modern and sought-after, plus they’re more technological, and will likely need an attendant to man it and explain to guests. Set up is more complicated with these, too.

The price of your wedding photo booth hire will be upped by unlimited prints or longer hire, plus personalised overlays on your photos will make them more expensive – but undeniably more special, too.

DIY setups, such as open-air booths with a tripod, can start at a lower price point, sometimes under £300. These might not come complete with props, so be aware that these will be an added cost if you want them and they aren’t supplied.

How to Choose a Wedding Photo Booth Company

We have an abundance of brilliant photo booth companies here on Bridebook – check out the ones below for inspiration.

PhotosBooths: This London-based photo booth company provides photo booths to weddings throughout London, the Home Counties and much of the UK. Each package includes a complimentary guest book, unlimited prints (in as little as six seconds!), print customisation, photo filters, a choice of backgrounds, video messaging and props.

Smartpicsuk® Photo Booth: These photo booths use professional lighting and cameras for the most flattering pictures – so it’s no wonder that last year saw an A-lister hire their party booth from this company… They’re best known for ultra-glam Kardashian-style black and white photos, so ideal if you’re having a black tie wedding.

Stack PhotoBooth: Serving East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, London, and Kent, one thing that makes Stack stand out is the offering of the Stack Booth, which sees individual photos are captured and stacked together into a collage.

Kabooth Photo Booth & Magic Mirror Hire: Based in Walsall, Kabooth’s options include a rustic magic mirror booth perfect for vintage-inspired wedding themes, as well as a fun heart-shaped mirror booth, for a romantic touch.

Blooper Photographic: Your wedding guests will be wowed by Bloopers’ booths, which uses digital backgrounds to transport them to the red carpet, to an enchanted forest and even the moon, creating memorable wedding keepsakes.

Seeing as they’re all so fab, here are a few elements to consider when choosing your wedding photo booth.

Check sample prints for quality: If you meet the vendor at a wedding fair, chances are they’ll be doing printouts on the day, so you can see then and there if it’s good quality. If you enquire online, ask them to send digital and physical samples to check them out.

Confirm they have public liability insurance: Boring, but important!

Ask about setup time and space requirements: Knowing how long the vendor needs to set up the booth is important, as it’ll need to be built into your wedding timeline. Some might deliver the day before, but if it comes with an attendant, they’ll likely arrive on the day itself to set up.

Don’t worry that you’ll need to sort the set-up; your venue will most likely do this, but be sure to ask so you can pass on the details.

Space is important too – before you book a booth, find out what space they’d need and check that your venue can accommodate.

Read reviews carefully: Make sure they only have glowing reviews, with an on-time arrival key, as well as a professional manner on the day. Look out for reviews of the reliability of the equipment, too – you don’t want a broken-down booth.

Wedding Photo Booth FAQs

Are photo booths worth it at a wedding?

Most couples find photo booths one of the best-value additions to their wedding day. They double as entertainment during the reception, keeping guests occupied between the meal and the dancing, and they produce instant physical keepsakes that guests can take home — something few other wedding extras can match.

How much is it to rent a photo booth for a day?

Most wedding photo booth hire packages are priced per event rather than per full day, typically covering a 3–4 hour window during the reception. For that standard hire window, expect to pay between £350 and £800 depending on the booth type. If you want the booth for longer — across both an afternoon and evening reception, for example — extended hire will push towards the £800–£1,200 end of the market.

How much should you spend on a photo booth at a wedding?

As a rough guide, most couples spend between £400 and £700 on wedding photo booth hire. That range covers a good-quality open-air or enclosed booth with an attendant, unlimited prints, and a prop box for a standard reception. If your budget stretches further and you want something more high-tech — a 360 booth or mirror booth — expect to pay £600–£1,000 or more. If budget is tight, an open-air or digital booth can come in under £400 and still deliver a great guest experience.

When should you book a wedding photo booth?

We’d advise booking your wedding photo booth nine to 12 months ahead of your big day if you’re getting married in peak season which is between May and September.

That said, some suppliers get booked 18 months in advance, so if you find a wedding photo booth that fits your needs and works with your venue, it can’t hurt to book it as soon as you find it – assuming you already have your venue locked in.
