Hampton Court Palace Full Description
Hampton Court Palace, is most famous for it's Tudor history and it's famous royal residents such as Henry VIII, William III and Mary II. It has even hosted the plays of William Shakespeare. Couples can choose between a number of venues within the Palace state apartments and grounds to suit their celebration and guest numbers. Our most intimate venue: Little Banqueting House, is based within the Palace grounds. It is one of the most picturesque spaces and is ideal for intimate celebrations and civil ceremonies for up to 50 people. It can also be used alongside the Garden Room for larger receptions. The Garden Room is light, airy and spacious - with glass doors opening out onto the private walled garden. Large enough to seat 180 guests, it is licensed for outdoor ceremonies and is able to host Mandaps and Asian weddings. There are options for a variety of entertainments, live bands and dancing. It also can be used in conjunction with our other venues, such as the Little Banqueting House or the State Apartments. Within the palace itself there are a number of stunning spaces to use, including The Great Hall. Originally designed for Henry VIII, it was the last medieval great hall to be constructed for the English monarchy. Prior to dining guests have a choice of reception venues or can even utilise the beautiful privy gardens and orangery. The Great hall can accommodate up to 220 guests, and is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 200 guests. Celebrations can down the undercroft. This atmospheric space was originally the beer cellar of Henry VIII and is perfect for serving cocktails and dancing late into evening.

‘Our wedding at Hampton Court was perfect. Everything went without a hitch. Jen, who looked after us from start to finish was an absolute star and we can’t thank her enough. The Garden Room was completely transformed and so beautiful. Everything went like clockwork. We are so grateful, lucky and happy. The day was simply perfect. Thank you.’

Frequently Asked Questions

Describe the best wedding that happened at Hampton Court Palace?

Some of the best weddings we have had are not necessarily the most flamboyant but the ones that are personal to the couple and have really thought how to enjoy every part of their day. One couple decided to to have an extended drinks reception so they could talk to all of their guests, all their food was a fusion of flavour to reflect their mixed family and they partied away until late in the evening with a live band. These might not seem like extraordinary things but it was unique to them and the atmosphere was amazing.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

It's so easy to get side tracked with photos and different moments, make time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the day.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

A flash mob! The family organised a surprise dance for the couple, it was so personal and was such a fabulous way to start the evening!

Describe Hampton Court Palace in 5 adjectives

Historic Magnificent Elegant Romantic Majestic

Where’s the best photo spot at Hampton Court Palace?

Our staircases are gorgeous so provide a great backdrop all year round. If weather is fine our gardens are stunning and with the palace in the backdrop it's the most romantic setting.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at Hampton Court Palace?

We have had a few and many will remain anonymous as we know that it is a day many want to keep private whether they are in the public eye or not. However, one of our higher profile weddings was that of Katherine Jenkins and Andrew Levitas.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Cornish lobster and shrimp brioche roll with tarragon

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Such a hard question! Between mini mac and cheese and mini cheese toasties

What is Hampton Court Palace most unique feature?

The most unique feature is the Great Hall. One of the last surviving hammerbeam roofs it was built for dining, entertaining and was also where Shakespeare performed.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Lots of people don't realise that we are a charity. Every wedding we have helps to preserve these beautiful buildings and their collections so that we can pass them on to future generations to enjoy and learn from.
