Those seeking natural bridal makeup want something effortless and no-fuss that makes them feel their best but ultimately still look like themselves.

The key to no-fuss makeup is to create a flawless yet glowy base. Develop a healthy routine well in advance, including drinking plenty of water, eating all the important nutrients your skin needs, and regular monthly facials 3-6 months before the wedding if you can, to boost your skin’s health.
On the day, try using a CC cream before your foundation; this evens out skin tone for an immaculate finish. The goal is velvety and dewy skin, with cheekbones enhanced by creams and glosses instead of shimmery highlighters. Apricot or peach blush will look more natural in photos over a classic rosy hue.

Stick to soft, neutral matte shades, such as beige, taupe, or soft tan. Sweep across the lid and into the crease for subtle depth. A hint of sparkle on the eyes is fine, but don’t go full-on glitter ball!

Avoid sticky glosses, especially if you’re wearing a veil. Instead, choose a sheer or matte lipstick – soft raspberry, coral or fuchsia tones can look gorgeous. And while it’s tempting to slick it on straight from the tube, it’ll last much longer if you arm yourself with a small brush.
You want to look and feel your best when you slip into your outfit and walk down that aisle, and sometimes that means switching up your everyday makeup look for something a bit more glam.

For definition without the heaviness, focus on smooth and hydrated skin, neutral-toned or gently smoky eyes, subtle highlighter and a rose-toned lip.
Pro tip: to make your eyes pop, use a contrasting shade of eyeliner to your eye colour and work it under, over and into your lashes.
You can take your look into the evening with a sultry flick of liquid eyeliner or a more intense shade of lipstick if you want to, too.

Beauty products that go the distance are key to full glam wedding makeup look –think a fuller-coverage foundation that won’t fade or rub off on clothing and long-wear eyeliner.
Choose a more dramatic eye or a bolder lip – or both if the overall harmony works (a classic red lip and a slick of winged eyeliner can look great together), while fluttery false lashes can help to create a beautiful, wide-eyed look.

While hiring a professional makeup artist will give you peace of mind on the day, if your beauty budget doesn’t stretch to hiring a pro, or you’d simply rather do your own wedding makeup, there’s no reason you shouldn’t arm yourself with a blusher brush and eyeshadow palette and get to work.
The goal is to create a flawless look that will last from dawn to the last dance – minimal touch-ups needed. Here’s how to do it:

Just like you wouldn’t try on your outfit for the first time on the morning of the wedding, it pays to practise your makeup look a few times in natural light before the day itself. Once you’ve got your beauty lineup sorted (see below for more on that), apply your full face in the morning and check it lasts all day.
Your makeup will only look as good as the skin it’s applied to, and by now you should have a full routine in place to ensure your best possible complexion. The night before, apply an overnight face mask (one that you’ve used before) – ideally one that contains skin-plumping hyaluronic acid.
Primer ensures your makeup goes on smoothly and remains looking flawless for longer. Apply a pea-sized amount to clean, moisturised skin. Start at the centre of the face and smooth on gently, working upwards and outwards towards the hairline and jaw. Allow five minutes to absorb before applying your foundation.
Brushes help to blend foundation seamlessly into the skin, meaning you’ll get a much smoother, natural-looking application. Avoid using your fingers, as the oil on them can interfere with the overall finish and impact how long your foundation lasts. Apply in small, circular motions, starting from the centre of the face and blending outwards. Once you’ve finished, you’ll be able to see the areas that need extra coverage.
Pat your concealer over any dark circles or blemishes with a clean finger – the warmth of your skin can help the two products to blend.
Like your skin, an eyeshadow primer will help your eye makeup last longer and prevents your eyeshadow from creasing. Gently apply a thin layer from your lash line to your brow bone. Be sparing though, as too much can cause your makeup to slide around.
Your eyeshadow and eyeliner application will depend on the shape of your eyes and your preferred look; we’d recommend visiting a makeup counter beforehand to work out what’s best for you.

Curling is essential to open your eyes and maximise your lashes – but rather than one heavy crimp, curl the base and then do a second curl in the middle. Then it’s mascara time. Everyone has their own way of fanning out their lashes, while others may also want to apply a few individual false lashes.
Using a small fluffy brush, apply bronzer around your hairline, under the cheekbones, around your jawline and under the chin for a gorgeous glow. If you prefer – or also want to wear – blusher, sweep it across the apples of your cheeks (smile! It will make it easier). Cream blushers give a natural look and won’t settle into fine lines, while powder works well on oilier skins.
If you’re coveting the luminous skin that you see all over Instagram, that’s down to highlighter. Apply a cream highlighter with your fingers and tap them along the top of your cheekbones and brow bones to give the illusion of higher cheekbones and lifted eyes. You could also apply near the tear ducts for a wide-awake look that brightens your eyes, and on your Cupid’s bow.
It doesn’t matter what colour you choose, the key to lip colour longevity is in the prep. A gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin and a nourishing balm will help your lipstick glide on. Just be sure to blot the balm off before you begin!
Apply your lip liner after your lipstick, that way, you can use it to perfect the shape and touch up the edges you may have missed with your lipstick.
When you’re happy with your look, use a makeup setting spray to ensure all your hard work doesn’t end up on your partner’s shoulder. Hold it around 30cm away from your face and mist in a ‘T’ and ‘X’ motion. Pack away any products in a clutch in case you need to touch up on the day.
If you’re doing your own wedding makeup, use this as an opportunity to audit your beauty products. Bin that months-old mascara and banish the cracked blusher – treat yourself to shiny new versions of your favourites to make sure you’re getting the most out of them.
Rather than overhauling your whole makeup bag though, consider using a mixture of trusted favourites and special upgrades, especially if you have products that you know already work for your skin. Here are some of our picks…

Professionally applied wedding makeup should last between 10-12 hours to see you through the entire event. Good skin prep, primers, setting sprays and layering techniques can help it to last even longer.
If you’ve booked a professional wedding makeup artist, you should always have a trial ahead of the wedding day, around 2-3 months beforehand.
A trial allows you to feel confident that your makeup artist truly understands your vision and will be able to execute it on the day. It also allows you to check that you’re happy with the products being used and make any adjustments to your chosen makeup look where needed.
The main difference between soft glam and full glam makeup lies in the intensity of the application.
For skin, soft glam allows for medium coverage with glowy undertones, and shades of blush that are more in line with your skin tone, while full glam offers slightly heavier coverage with higher-contrast contouring.
Soft glam eyes and lips are also more about neutral tones that have been lightly blended, while full glam eyes and lips often include more defined liner and saturated shades.
