Full Description
Located only thirty miles south of Edinburgh, thirty-five miles from the airport, and within an easy two-hour drive from both Glasgow & Newcastle, Wedderlie House is not only easily accessible for all of your guests, but is also situated within one of the most idyllic parts of the country. Sitting in the famous rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, the Wedderlie House grounds provide the beautiful backdrop that will make your day truly special. The main 16th Century mansion house and castle are set in a private sixty acre estate where guests can enjoy an entirely private experience surrounded by friends and family. The estate offers accommodation for around 45 people spread between the main house, our cottage, the hayloft and cabins. All events are tailored to the individual requirements of each couple or group. The average rental runs for two nights and three days, allowing guests to properly catch up and relax in the stunning Borders’ countryside. Included in every booking is access to the main house, cottage and hayloft; 2 beautifully refurbished barns that act as event function spaces; a dining marquee to sit up to 150 guests; 60 acres of grounds, gardens and lawns, tennis court (if you're feeling particularly active), peacocks, a pond and more! It is a newly refurbished, breath-taking venue with a historical twist and many discoverable woodland areas! We are working with each of our couples individually to make sure that it is their day their way!

Personal Message from the Manager

Welcome to Wedderlie - we are so excited to potentially host you at our estate. We purchased Wedderlie in 2019 and have loved watching it transform into the venue it is today. It is a family business, when you get married at Wedderlie you'll get to know us and we'll treat you as one of the family! After getting married a few years ago we realised the importance of offering couples a venue that allows them to relax and enjoy their surroundings for a few days!

Lovely light and spacious
It's a lovely, light and spacious cottage for 8 people. The hospitality is outstanding, a treat to watch peacocks out the kitchen window and a beautiful location.

The best!
This is by far the best self catering accommodation I have ever stayed at! The house is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Connie and Jamie have thought of everything. There is every kitchen utensil you can think of and there were so many thoughtful gestures such as putting out a high chair and cot for our little one so we were able to just relax and enjoy our holiday from the moment we arrived. There was lots for us and our daughter to enjoy on site including peacocks, a great play park, tennis court and local walks. The hosts also provided loads of information about local attractions. We had such a brilliant holiday and will definitely be back. Thank you Connie and Jamie!

Absolutely outstanding place - a very special location and building. Beautiful furnished and wonderful hosts who were at the end of the phone for us. If you want a proper relax with spectacular scenery, peace, peacocks roaming and very comfy beds - you have to book.

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

We can't choose, as we love all of our weddings, they're so unique!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

We want to keep in the know about your wedding - good communication with our events team is super important so that we are all on the same page. We are more than happy to help with the finer details to make your dream wedding come to life!

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

Live music - whether it be walking down the aisle, during the drinks reception or just for the evening celebrations; live music just adds something extra special. In the past, we have seen a full Jazz band perform outside for the drinks reception, a saxophonist play the night away and the all important Scottish bag-piper during guest arrival. We were also lucky enough to experience a string quartet accompanying the bride and her party down the aisle - Truly special.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Spacious, historic, blank-canvas, rural, magical

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

In front of the main house, which is a huge, lush lawn lined with gorgeous tall trees. It offers plenty of space for all your guests, for a perfect party photo - either in front of the house or in front of the beautiful Scottish Borders view!

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Not yet, but we do have one very special guest getting hitched with us in 2023!

What’s your favourite canapé?

Haggis bon-bons

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Pizza all the way!

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The gardens, which include a wishing tree, walled garden, wooded area and have lots of two legged friends roaming in between the bushes and flowers - peacocks, geese and doves!

What part of your business are you most proud of?

We are a new and exclusive-use venue. When we took over Wedderlie House in 2019 it needed a huge amount of renovating - we are proud of the high standard we've accomplished.
