Description

"Just three miles south of Ripon, North Yorkshire, there is an extraordinary footpath that will lead you from the medieval ruins of Fountains Abbey, across undulating wooded parkland and bring you to Markenfield Hall, an impossibly lovely 13th and early 14th century fortified manor house, entirely surrounded by its moat. Despite its fairy tale exterior Markenfield is in fact home to Mr Ian Curteis and his wife, Lady Deirdre." Country Life, 2019 A truly unique venue, its outline reflected in the encircling moat, Markenfield provides a wonderfully intimate venue for a wedding. Hidden in the rolling North Yorkshire countryside, yet within easy reach of Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds, Markenfield Hall is indeed a remarkable medieval survival. Unlike many venues, Markenfield Hall does not offer a fixed wedding package. Because of the intimate nature of the Hall, we have the ability to tailor your day around you. We will simply outline the different alternatives available, and then let you decide what you would like to do, where you would like to do it and when. All catering at Markenfield is carried out by The Dusty Miller. Brian and Elizabeth’s bespoke service allows you to work with them to devise a menu based upon any idea that you may already have, or any absolute must-haves. They will be able to advise you what will be available locally and seasonally. From this, they will produce a menu for you - from a canape reception to a four course meal.

Personal Message from the Manager

Name of Wedding Contact: Sarah
Markenfield is a stunning family home that welcomes you with open arms - we're as excited about you special day as you are, and will do everything we possibly can to make it as memorable for you and your guests as we possibly can. The Hall isn't for everyone - we don't offer dancing until dawn, drunken carousing or marquees seating 10,000 of your closest family. What we do offer is a unique setting in which to enjoy the company of 35 of your nearest and dearest whilst you make your vows.

A well fed guest
I’m really not sure how you do it?! You should be a juggler! Thank you so much for my goodie bag - please thank Liz (and Brian) for me! Comparison with tea at Grantley would be invidious – but in the nicest possible way I’m sure perhaps Dusty Miller would come out on top!

A small family wedding to remember
Hello, speaking on behalf of everyone from Castle-Parks wedding, could I please say a great big THANKYOU for our day yesterday. It was fantastic. It’s difficult to put in words how much we enjoyed it. From the way we drove in the coach chasing a pheasant up the driveway, to the way you personally greeted us from the coach, the food was wonderful delicious and beautifully presented, to the 2 of our personal guides, the history of the hall was fascinating I could go on a little longer highlighting different things. To end the Hall itself is incredible considering its age. Please accept again how much we enjoyed our visit THANKYOU. 🥰

We had such an amazing day last week. The property is gorgeous and meeting Lady Deirdre, made the visit so special and memorable. The afternoon tea in front of the fire is like no other venue. Thank you all for sharing the beauty and history of Markenfield with us.

A very special day
Thank you so much for all you did to make our day so special yesterday & your congratulations & yes we’re still floating on a cloud of happiness, if a little tired too today. It was also very special to have the opportunity to speak briefly with Lady Deirdre and voice our appreciation of the beautiful home she has.
