The best day of our lives.
To Ellie, Murray and everyone at Mackays hotel. From the moment Beth and I came to look at your venue for our wedding, we knew that Mackay’s hotel was the venue for us, both Ellie and Murray were superb throughout the planning and always kept us right, from the day we booked until the big day itself, we and our guests had the most amazing time, the staff were always on hand and very professional, the food was delicious and everything went perfect, me and Beth could not be happier with how everything went, we would seriously encourage others to book Mackay’s hotel as their wedding venue, the best day of our lives. Thank you to everyone at Mackay’s hotel, Wick.

We highly recommend the hotel and will stop again
My husband and I have just come back from driving the North Coast 500 route in Scotland and stopped off at Mackays Hotel in Wick for three nights. We had a lovely time! All of the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. The food was excellent quality. We highly recommend the hotel and will stop again in the future.

A Charming Hotel – Highly recommended!
What a lovely experience at Mackays - a charming hotel with friendly staff and great food. Stayed here for one night on our tour of Scotland’s North Coast and couldn’t be happier. The rooms are a good standard and there’s a nice little bar downstairs to enjoy a drink before dinner. We brought our dog with us and they couldn’t have been more accommodating - even bringing a plate of sausages for dinner and breakfast. Special mention to Fiona for her warm welcome & hospitality. Highly recommended!

Thank you for making our trip so memorable!
This hotel has the old school charm, in the best way possible. It's so refreshing to be in a hotel that not just pays lip service to guest service, but actually means it. Hotel is next to River Wick in a very good location, the staff are top notch & attentive, room was very clean (appreciate the complimentary tipple) & spacious. The breakfast was very good, the staff on service were extraordinary. Thank you for making our trip so memorable.

Lovely Hotel
Stayed at Mackays from Friday until Monday in May for a wedding. Lovely hotel and I have to say the menu was brilliant and the meals themselves were beautiful.

A delicious meal on the world’s shortest street!
Part of Mackays Hotel, this yummy restaurant makes up for its small address with a big menu. As well as serving up everything from fish and chips to buttermilk fried chicken burgers, it would sure make for a good story to say you had a meal on the world's smallest street.

Historic Gem of the North
This historic little gem, is nestled in the center of the village of Wick. It sits on number 1 Ebeneezer St. which happens to be the shortest street in the world... it is definitely worth a visit. If you wander inside this quaint little tavern, you’ll be greeted with warm hospitality, and a wonderful menu that will delight any tastebud. If you are looking for a bed for the night, Mackay’s Hotel can also accommodate singles, couples and families. I highly recommend a visit to Mackays Hotel.

A total joy of a hotel
We thought the days of provincial hotels run like this were over; but Mackays Hotel is proof that it can still be done and it’s a joy to experience. The hotel may look a little austere from the outside, but step inside and it’s immediately warm, welcoming and relaxing. The staff are terrific, the bar is well stocked, the restaurant is excellent, the rooms are well appointed and the breakfast is brilliant. It’s life affirming, don’t hesitate!

The Most Perfect Wedding Weekend
Where do I start? Everything for our wedding, from start to finish, was perfect. We wanted laid back and fun with a traditional edge and this is exactly what Ellie and Murray helped us put together. The food was outstanding and so many of our guests have let us know this too. The staff at the hotel were so attentive and made everyone feel welcome and relaxed. As Ellie and Murray we’re important guests at our wedding, they drafted in Keith to MC on the day. He didn’t let them or us down. He did a terrific job. Many of our guests had traveled from all over the country and further a field and they were delighted with their rooms, evening meals and of course the amazing breakfast on offer at the hotel. Ellie and Murray, thank you for making our day perfect x

There is refuge in Mackays Hotel
When the weather blows in, as it is wont to do, there is refuge in Mackays Hotel, a flatiron-type edifice on Ebenezer Place – apparently, the shortest street in the world. It’s one of those warm, welcoming, traditional hotels where a traveller can find a home from home. Its location, at a five-road crossing, is said to be mentioned in Treasure Island; Robert Louis Stevenson came here as a young man when his father was attempting to construct a breakwater.

FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at Mackays Hotel?

That would be Karen's in 2022. Karen contacted me from Glasgow and apart from 1 meeting in the hotel for her bridesmaids to 'check us out' and give their approval (they did!) everything we did was online and by email. It was an absolute joy to have Karen's and Stuart's wedding with us. It's a big responsibility to deliver for our bridal couples and I never take anything for granted , Karen's comment after her wedding still brings tears to my eyes, 'Every bride needs an Ellie' 🥰

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Don't agree to book accommodation for any guests, you've enough to do in the lead up to your wedding and you want to enjoy it! 😍

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

The groom making the favours and place names, he was a woodwork (is that still a word ?!?) teacher and made them himself with the help of some pupils🤩

Describe Mackays Hotel in 5 adjectives

Friendly, professional, accommodating, caring and listens 🥰

Where’s the best photo spot at Mackays Hotel?

Well that would have to be on The Shortest Street in the World, Ebenezer Place which is at the end of our building, only 6ft 9 inches. Great fun squeezing everyone in for a group photo!

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at Mackays Hotel?

All my brides are celebrities in my eyes 💞

What’s your favourite canapé?

I am a vegetarian so I only eat those, my current fav is Bruschetta with whipped feta and sun-dried tomato 😋 but the Beetroot jam, goats cheese, crisp bread comes a close second! So far the guests' fav is Haggis Bonbons, so much so that most other venues started offering them because they had so many requests! For 2024 I think the new fav will be Buttermilk fried chicken, mustard mayo

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Mmmmm nothing wedding related 😀, a hot chocolate made by hubby - it's annoying that he can make a better one than me!

What is Mackays Hotel most unique feature?

For us it's not about the physical aspects, it's about our way of being, we want everyone to love being with us that they want to come back - I like to call it our Mackays Magic 😍

What part of your business are you most proud of?

I am most proud of our team and the way they carry on our ethos of looking after people. The best compliment I feel we ever had was a guest who stayed for 2 weeks writing a review and she said 'It's not like staying in a hotel, it's like staying in Murray and Ellie's home' That really touched me 😘
