My husband and I live in Asheville, North Carolina, but we had visited the Scottish Highlands a couple of years ago and knew immediately that it was the perfect setting for our wedding. When we began choosing our venue, our very first phone call with Lucy was all it took. We knew The Kingsmills was the right place for us. We had 21 wedding guests join us from the US for our celebration, and the Kingsmills made the entire experience feel incredibly special from beginning to end. They helped us arrange welcome drinks for everyone, and they thought of so many thoughtful little details throughout our stay and wedding day that we never would have thought to ask for. It was clear that they weren't simply checking boxes or executing a wedding package. They genuinely cared about making the experience memorable for us and our guests. From that first conversation all the way through our wedding day, Lucy was absolutely incredible. She completely understands high-end hospitality, but what impressed us most was how genuinely personal her care was. I had worried that I might be stressed on the morning of our wedding, but somehow Lucy and her team made the entire day feel effortless. She even came to get me when it was time for our first look and continued checking in on us throughout the day, always seeming to know exactly what we needed before we even had to ask. And it wasn't just Lucy. Lee from the concierge team, Gregory, Christian, and the rest of the Kingsmills team were outstanding. Christian in particular helped make our reception run so incredibly smoothly, and he and Lucy were simply exceptional. Every detail was handled with such care and professionalism. They anticipated our needs and wants in a way that made us feel like we weren't just guests at a hotel, but part of the Kingsmills family. And Lee deserves a special mention of his own. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
The Kingsmills is made up of five beautiful and individual venues; the Adams Room, Macleod Room, Inglis Ceremony Room, Burns Room and the elegant Kingsmills Suite. As each day is so personal, it's really hard to choose! A recent Spring wedding saw one couple enjoy a garden ceremony to the sounds of birdsong, canapés and champagne in the gardens and they even brought in alpacas to entertain the guests. In the evening, the dance floor was full for a traditional foot-stomping ceilidh - a proper Highland 'knees up' and truly a day to remember.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
We believe that it is important to work with suppliers who truly resonate with you and share your vision for the day. The venue is likely your biggest consideration and a venue with everything on site; bedrooms, leisure, gardens, event space and local contacts and experience will take a lot of organisational pressure off your hands.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
One of the most special occasions was when we assisted with the live streaming of a wedding ceremony back to the bride's grandmother in Russia. One of our team was able to converse with her, set up the Skype call and tears were shared as the happy couple said their vows.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Each season, our favourite spot changes depending on the colours, lighting and weather. In Spring, the light streams through the bay window at the front of the hotel - perfect for couple photos. In the Summer, it has to be the wedding garden with the backdrop of lush lawns and bright foliage. Autumn sunsets are perfectly captured on the garden path leading to our garden rooms; the beds flower in rich ruby reds and golden hues. In Winter, venture out under a flurry of snow or if the weather is inclement, the Adams Room by the roaring log fire is second-to-none.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

What’s your favourite canapé?
The Haggis Bon Bon is the most popular with guests... why stray from a sure winner?! However, our favourite? A whipped Goat’s Cheese Mousse using cheese from local Connage dairy served in a crisp tartlet with beetroot relish.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
A bacon roll hits different at midnight...
