Couples can never be exactly sure when it happened. Or even when it started. But at some
point in that initial journey of contemplation our clients find themselves in the right here and
now, falling totally in love with Balbirnie House, and all that we do.
And so, each wedding begins.

is symbolic of a moment in life that is full of hope and love’
Balbirnie House is a 1777 Georgian mansion, Category Grade A Listed of
national and international importance.
The house was the inspiration for Edinburgh’s New Town. This historic house was caringly
restored and converted into a hotel in the late 1980’s, and since then the property has evolved
into a totally unique and special destination, and especially so for weddings.
Balbirnie is one of Scotland’s landmark hotels, with a uniquely established history under 4
decades of personal supervision and private ownership, playing host and providing a backdrop
for many thousands of Scotland’s most special private and corporate events.
Over the years Balbirnie has been the recipient of a quite extraordinary collection
of industry awards, especially for weddings.
In these contexts, 2022 was an extraordinary year.
We were quite simply overjoyed to announce that at the most recent Scottish Hotel of the Year
Awards (the Hotel Industry Oscars equivalent), and set against the competitive backdrop of
the many wonderful hotels and wedding venues across Scotland, Balbirnie once again received
overall ‘Scottish Wedding Hotel of the Year’ - Rather incredibly, that is now 14 times in the last
16 years that Balbirnie has received Scotland’s top wedding award, in recognition of our
dedication to our weddings.
Our whole team are over the moon and thrilled that all our hard work to make each and every
wedding so special has been so well recognised.

The best venue ever -an absolutely magical day
Thank you so much to all at Balbirnie! The time we spent with you this week has been absolutely phenomenal, from the pre wedding dinner the night before right through to check out the day after the wedding. A special thanks to Gaynor, Angela and Taylor - you went above and beyond for us and really felt like guardian angels the past few days! Everything ran so smoothly and all of our guests who have stayed with you for days on end have expressed how much they have enjoyed themselves, how gorgeous the venue is and how fantastic every single staff member has been. Balbirnie is a dream wedding venue. The photographs taken by yourselves are absolutely stunning and let's also not forget the delicious food! Thank you so so much. Can't wait to come back for dinner sometime soon!

The best imaginable wedding team
We got married at Balbirnie at the end of September and cannot recommend it highly enough. The venue itself is beautiful and we were so well looked after by the wedding team at all times including in the initial planning stages, immediate run up and on the day itself. The team were highly responsive and well organised throughout.
Although the venue hosts weddings regularly, we did not feel that we were required to follow a fixed format and the team went out of their way to accommodate requests to do things differently making us feel that our wedding was individual to us.
The team on the day (led by our wonderful MC David) exceeded all expectations - they were amazingly organised, accommodating, hard working and just generally good people to have around on your wedding day. Various guests commented on how well organised the wedding day was. David really took control on the day and made us feel like we could relax and enjoy the day knowing everything was in safe hands.
We also cannot thank Katy enough for her help throughout the wedding planning process - her attention to detail and dedication to making our day exactly how we wanted it made the planning process so much easier than it might otherwise have been.
The food was also wonderful on the day - we received lots of positive feedback from guests and were very grateful to the kitchen staff for listening to our feedback from our menu tasting and incorporating that into the dishes that were served on the day.
Thank you so much to the entire team at Balbirnie for giving us the best wedding day we could ever have imagined!

Amazing wedding venue!
Balbirnie put on the most amazing wedding for us. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly the whole way through the planning process, and on the day itself. The venue is perfect if you want a hassle free, beautiful place!
The team managed to execute all of our very specific needs and the whole process was seamless.
Our favourite parts were:
-The Long gallery made the ceremony very special with a classic feel in a modern setting
-The Ballroom setup worked perfectly with the LED lit dancefloor in the middle

The Best day of our lives 🤍
We fell in love with Balbirnie House from the second we walked in. Since that moment, the team could not have been more helpful. From planning our wedding, to ensuring our day was just as we had dreamed, the entire team were fantastic. We certainly understand why they have won so many awards and are the stand-out wedding venue in Scotland.
A very special thank you to our wonderful wedding planner Christine, from organising the big things such as rooms for our guests to stay, to the little things such as fixing my veil just before I walked down the aisle, she was amazing.
We also have to highlight that our master of ceremonies David, was an absolute dream. Our day would not have been as special as it was without his expertise and attention to detail.
