Full Description
Winton Castle is a wedding venue steeped in history that blends the grandeur of a Castle with the intimacy of a family home. We fondly call this ‘intimacy on a grand scale’. Our romantic Scottish Renaissance castle is a hidden gem surrounded by mature gardens, deep in tranquil East Lothian countryside, just half an hour from Edinburgh city centre and the international airport. As an exclusive use events venue, the castle and its gardens are all yours for the duration of your own castle wedding. Unlike a hotel, this guarantees that your celebration is uninterrupted by other events. By limiting the number of weddings held here each year, we ensure that Winton Castle is still something of a well kept secret. It also ensures that you receive the very best attention from start to finish. We still have some limited availability in 2023, but are now mostly taking wedding bookings for 2024. Winton Castle Wedding Visits & Virtual Tours You can visit Winton in person, or arrange a guided virtual 3D-Tour over Zoom, while discussing your wedding plans. Call or email us to book your tour. Helping You Plan Your Wedding Here at Winton we are ready and waiting to help you start planning one of the best days of your life, whether you are looking for a fully bespoke wedding, or a tried and tested wedding package. We have low season rates that can save you at least £2,000 over January and February. Our team has more than 20 years of experience planning and hosting weddings and we would love yours to be our next one! By limiting the number of weddings held here each year, we ensure that Winton Castle is still something of a well-kept secret. It also ensures that you receive the very best, personal service from start to finish. Exceptional Eco Credentials Events here make the most of our wonderful nature, wildlife and countryside.

Wedding Bliss!
We originally planned our wedding at Winton for January 2022, but due to an increase in covid, we postponed until November 2022. The Winton staff were so understanding and accommodating with covid (unlike other castles we had considered). We also appreciated the fact there are a limited number of weddings each year and how the Winton Team are so personable throughout the planning process and each wedding there is special as theres not one on every week! My husband and I cannot recommend Winton Castle highly enough. Incredible castle venue and most importantly lovely staff who covered everything and more for our special day! Big thank you to Fay for working so closely with us to make our day perfect.

Winton Castle made our dream wedding a reality
My partner and I got married at Winton Castle in August 2022 and we cannot thank them enough for the special day they gave us. We had to rearrange the wedding three times due to Covid but from start to finish everyone we dealt with in the process of arranging our day was super helpful, friendly and quick to respond to any queries. They even provided much needed motivation when we were in doubt as to whether our wedding would ever go ahead. The castle is beautiful and has been kept with a grand but homely feel and never felt crowded even with 100 – 120 guests. Our guests commented on the uniqueness of the venue, amazing food, entertainment and general friendliness and approachability of all the staff. We had quite a few young kids as guests at the wedding and the lawn was set up for them with different games, plus there was a ‘kids den’ arranged inside for them to play in. My dream was to ride my horse to get to the castle. The team at Winton Castle allowed this dream to become reality. There are not many venues that would allow a horse to come as a guest and offer him a field to chill out in while the ceremony was on. Nothing was ever too much to ask for and the attention to detail and planning work that went into the wedding from Rae and her team was incredible. Thank you so much to the whole team at Winton Castle. We would highly, highly recommend Winton Castle. The perfect choice for a once in a life time event.

Wonderful Winton
Words genuinely do not do justice to what a wonderful venue Winton was for our wedding but I shall try! We were one of the unfortunate couples whose plans got scuppered by covid. While it was heartbreaking to make the decision to postpone (twice) I cannot say how much easier everyone at Winton made it for us. They were compassionate, kind, beyond accommodating and so so flexible every step of the way. Our wedding day in August 2022 was magical beyond words. With a new five month old baby in tow I was slightly less organised than I used to be once upon a time and Rae was somehow able to bring together our ideas of what might be nice and make them happen. The weather was glorious, Rae and the team had the castle looking like a fairy tale - a garden ceremony and so many games, hay bales with rugs for the gorgeous drinks and canapés, the marquee for our massive family was decorated simply with ivy from the gardens and looked just stunning and the castle itself was like having the house party of our dreams. Every moment was perfect. I’d always looked forward to our nightcap in the library after everyone left to debrief on the day and it really was beyond magical. Thank you Rae, thank you Winton, we’ll never forget it!!!

Wonderful Winton
As a wedding photographer I get to work at many beautiful venues all over the country. Last week I had the pleasure of working at the incredible Winton House, to say I was blown away would be quite the understatement. As weddings venues go Winton House is just perfect, the grounds are simply incredible and there are never ending photographic opportunities, the gardens are beautifully manicured and this is also amazing for photographs! Inside the castle itself it just gets better, the ornate surroundings are breathtaking and if I am being honest I would say that this is my new favourite wedding venue to work at. I want to finish off by mentioning the staff, throughout the wedding a shot last week the young staff were incredibly accommodating. Myself and the videographers were looked after extremely well, this was made evident during the wedding breakfast when all the staff were running upstairs with the wedding courses, we were constantly asked if everything was okay and did we need anything else, we were treated like wedding guests and this was so refreshing especially with the chaos of feeding 130 wedding guests. The history of Winton House is mind blowing, parts of the original building date back to the 15th century and the stories have to be heard to be believed, just incredible. I cannot wait to head back to this beautiful wedding venue, I will be raving about Winton House for some time to come! Gary Bonar Photography

Perfect Scottish Castle Wedding Venue
We chose Winton as our wedding venue after a long search and several viewings of other castles in and around Edinburgh. We were drawn to the fact that it allows you have the entire wedding inside and on one floor (providing you have a wedding of an appropriate size), as well as having a great winter wedding offer. Several rooms like the Library allow guests to have a sit down and chat without being drown out by the disco music and the bathrooms on the main floor are great for guests who can't do stairs very easily. It truly was the perfect spot, we had many compliments from guests at how amazing the venue was. Fay and the Winton wedding team were a pleasure to work with, they were great at keeping in touch and being flexible when we had guests cancellations at the last minute because of Storm Eunice. They also arranged for us to have access to the castle roof for pictures with their famous chimneys at the grooms request. The castle itself is kept in great condition and the family really want you to feel like its home, you are free to look at the books on the shelf in the library, and sit on the fancy couches and chairs. As a wedding venue it was great in that I didn't really need to splash out on decorations since the castle itself has more than enough going on to occupy your guests. The Bridal suite is a beautiful room with lots of space and a massive bathroom that probably has the same square footage of our flat! Because we were married in February it was also remarked several times that it was 'surprisingly' warm inside, as people are used to the idea of drafty and cold castles, not at Winton! Sad that my wedding day went by in a flash I could have easily stayed forever!

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

We hosted a fun-filled week long wedding stay in the Castle and wider Estate summer 2022. The days included highland games, laser tag, shortbread making and whisky tastings as well as day trips to Edinburgh and North Berwick. There was even a ceilidh tuition by the Castle owner Sir Ogilvy! The wedding day itself welcomed 120 guests, mostly from the States, to put their new ceilidh knowledge to the test. It was an incredible week.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Don't put your guests wants before your own. It's your day, have it the way you want.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

We love to see couples bring in personal touches. One of my favourites is table names based on places that mean something to the couple, along with a photo of them there and a short story about why it's so special. We learn so much about our wedding couples from touches like this.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

beautiful, charming, homely, classic, friendly

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

We have a jetty that leads out onto our private loch. It's an incredible photo spot and private from view from the rest of the Castle.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

We did host the wedding of a former Scotland Rugby captain a few years back so we were very excited to welcome most of the rugby team that day. Along the sporting lines we have also served Chris Hoy as a wedding guests. Charlotte Church also turned up at a wedding a few years back when her partner was providing music for the ceremony.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Anything with haggis! Mini haggis, neeps and tatties tarts, or haggis bon bons with a honey mustard dip.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Can't beat a hog roast roll with apple sauce and stuffing.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The gardens are incredible and photographers love the variety or picturesque spots.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Our staff are always incredibly highly praised. They are our own in-house trained staff and they do a fantastic job.
