Description

The Hospitium is licensed for wedding ceremonies and we work closely with staff at York Register Office to ensure your wedding runs like a dream. Our dedicated team will help you to make your special day a joyful and memorable one. The ground floor is ideal for your wedding ceremony and can be quickly converted to an open area for a drinks reception after the formalities are completed. Its medieval stone walls and latticed windows give it a historic, traditional air and offer a "blank canvas" for your choice of floral arrangements. During the warmer months, many couples choose to hold their post-ceremony drinks reception outside on our paved area. This private area looks out over the Museum Gardens and helps create a lovely summer garden party atmosphere. The first floor, with its high ceiling and half-timbered walls, provides a stunning dining room for your wedding breakfast. We can host seated dinners for up to 130 guests and drinks/buffet receptions for up to 150 guests. To round off the evening, the ground floor can again be converted into a space for music, dancing and parties!

A stunning venue and incredible staff
Melody was my wedding contact for the three years leading up to the wedding, she is so lovely, and answered all my solly questions like what measurements are the stairs. We hada meeting 4-6 weeks before the wedding and she talked us through the day. On the day we were so luck to have four of the ladies working. They are true professionals, if things went wrong i was unaware. We thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Brilliant venue!
We can't thank you enough for how kind, accommodating and helpful you were through the whole process of planning (and then rescheduling) our wedding. You were always so upbeat and reassuring every time we spoke to you and we feel lucky to have had such an amazing team to help plan our day. The day itself was everything we hoped for - in no small part thanks to your brilliant staff!

Phenomenal venue
We chose this venue based on how exceptional the staff were. It didn't feel like the other venues we visited which all felt so much like a conveyor belt of weddings, with no personality at all. The staff at the Hospitium were exemplary - so so helpful and enthusiastic. Great communication and really professional. If i were to do it all over again, I would still chose this venue.

Beautiful Winter Wedding
We had our wedding here out of season and were impressed from the start. We choose the Hospitium not only due to its beautiful location but also due to the money that you pay for the venue going to the Yorkshire Museum Trust which helps to look after this historic building in York. The build up to our day went without issue, everyone in the team went out of their way to help us and could not do enough for us.

FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at The Hospitium?

Two amazing Grooms booked with us over 5 years before their happy day. Despite many interruptions, including the pandemic, they tied the knot at the Hospitium surrounded by pumpkins, skulls, Halloween decorations and an incredible amount of love. The happiness and love radiated from them and their guests all the way through - from the initial excitement of planning meetings, through their passionate ceremony and tear-inducing speeches, to celebrations during the evening party. 2 years later and we still mention them fondly!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Enjoy the process and explore what makes you happy - this is YOUR big day! We are here to help you make it as smooth and magical as possible.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

One lovely couple got engaged in the romantically lit up "Storytelling" part of Museum Gardens, right next to the Hospitium. Few months later they were getting married at our venue and inside their wedding bands were engraved coordinates for this place. We are still incredibly touched by this. It was such a beautiful and personal event that even our hosts cried during the ceremony!
