The Hospitium

Price: £2,800 – £6,200
Guests: 120

Description

The historic Hospitium. Originally a centre of hospitality for visitors to the 14th century Abbey, now a wonderful events space, perfect for wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions.

Every wedding booked here supports our charity (York Museums Trust), keeping this beautiful building and gardens alive for years to come.

The stone ceremony room has a wonderfully solemn feel, with a natural aisle running down the centre, with room for guests to be seated either side. Head upstairs for the dining room with vaulted ceilings, where we can style and decorate to your vision. We can seat up to 120 on round tables or a few less with banquet style long tables.

Party the night away back in our ground floor space, where the evening entertainment will be ready to go after your meal.

It really is such a beautiful and unique space, perfect for a relaxed wedding day where the events flow easily and guests enjoy being in the centre of York, surrounded by peaceful botanic gardens.

We love this venue, and we would love to show you around soon! Drop us a message and we can arrange a time that suits you to visit.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

Two amazing Grooms booked with us over 5 years before their happy day. Despite many interruptions, including the pandemic, they tied the knot at the Hospitium surrounded by pumpkins, skulls, Halloween decorations and an incredible amount of love. The happiness and love radiated from them and their guests all the way through - from the initial excitement of planning meetings, through their passionate ceremony and tear-inducing speeches, to celebrations during the evening party. 2 years later and we still mention them fondly!

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Enjoy the process and explore what makes you happy - this is YOUR big day! We are here to help you make it as smooth and magical as possible.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

One lovely couple got engaged in the romantically lit up "Storytelling" part of Museum Gardens, right next to the Hospitium. Few months later they were getting married at our venue and inside their wedding bands were engraved coordinates for this place. We are still incredibly touched by this. It was such a beautiful and personal event that even our hosts cried during the ceremony!

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Historic, unique, beautiful, atmospheric & memorable.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

To the side of our building are historic ruins that create a phenomenal atmosphere for your pictures.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Yes! However, we care about privacy of our guests and couples.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Welsh Rarebit with caramelised onion chutney - made by our wonderful caterers. Yummy!

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Proper oven baked pizza on thin crust - delicious :-)

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The perfect combination of being in the town centre but still quiet and intimate, and of being modern and historical - fully accessible, beautiful space that work with any number of decoration or ideas, whether you like it full on or minimalistic.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Our dedicated, close team that goes over and beyond to support you and each other in making your dream day come true.
