From the moment we visited the venue, Carol was amazing - helping us out with every detail to ensure our day was perfect. And it was. The day was everything that we could have dreamed of and more. The staff were absolutely incredible from start to finish - I couldn't fault them. The service they provided was brilliant and and so was the evening entertainment. We couldn't recommend this venue enough - we'd do it all over again if we could!!! Thank you to Carol, Sultan, Alex and the team for special day a dream come true.We got married at the Glen Yr Afon on 21st May 2022. Not once did the hotels commitment to making our day special waver through all of the uncertainty. Carol always knew what we needed to hear throughout the process and was so personable. We had lots of ideas that all came to life thanks to Carol and her team, every fine detail was thought of which made it look so beautiful. The day was truly magical and that is testimony to the hard work you put into the planning and execution on the day by Carol, Sulthan and the whole Glen-Yr-Afon team. It was nice to have so many food options avail all off which were amazing not only were all our guests complementary of the food, it great to see the children be so well catered for as well. Certainly none of our guests went hungry. A key factor in choosing Glen-Yr-Afon was the ability to have all our guests stay with us in the hotel. Carol’s management and organisation of this was a particular relief. Having everyone so close meant our wedding day turned into a whole weekend of celebrations. All the staff were exemplary, nothing was to much trouble and we were made to feel so special. We are ever so grateful for this. The staff on site made my family feel at home from the moment they arrived. They delivered a gold standard service and everyone's needs were catered for without question. (They even created a doggy bag for our pooches to take home! ) This high level of service never waivered and even went on until the day after our wedding. Sultan in particular made my wife and I feel like royalty! The hotel itself was in a brilliant location, the rooms were spacious, clean and the beds were SO comfortable! The grounds were picturesque and were perfect for beautiful wedding photos! The venue was big enough for a wedding party but made the whole day seem intimate and even more special than it already was. As an aside, the standard of food delivered on site is superb! The range of food was brilliant as well as the quality of the produce. No-one went hungry! Within the current climate, planning the wedding was difficult but Carol made the whole thing effortless. She worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was catered for, maintained regular contact with us, was approachable and nothing was too big or small for her to tackle. How To Get To Us From the M4
Exit the M4 at Junction 24, at the Coldra roundabout take the A449 to Monmouth. Turn off the A449 at the Usk junction and join the A472 to Usk. Stay on this road and be aware that you will be entering a 30 M.P.H. Zone. Follow the main road through the main street and over the river bridge. The road bears right from the river bridge. Shortly after this bridge you will see a sign for The Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel which is on the left handside of the road.
How To Get To Us From the M5
Exit the M5 at Junction 8, join the M50 and follow this road which will become the A40/A449.Turn off the A449 at the Usk junction and join the A472 to Usk. Stay on this road and be aware that you will be entering a 30 M.P.H. Zone. Follow the main road through the main street and over the river bridge. The road bears right from the river bridge. Every wedding is unique which makes my job so much more enjoyable!
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't fall into the trap of trying to include too much in your day - less is more! Guests who are looked after well, fed delicious food and accommodated in comfortable bedrooms remember your day for as long as you will!
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
I've seen many nice touches over the years. Because we are a pet-friendly venue, its great that couples can bring their dog(s) along to share in the photographs of the big day. After all, pets are part of the family!
Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.
Homely, comfortable, stunning, unique, outstanding
Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
We have immaculate grounds so this is a tough question! The field and woodlands to the rear of the hotel has become a popular spot as a rustic, but romantic photograph.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
Yes we have, plenty! In fact the weekend just gone we had a very well known Welsh Rugby legend as a guest. We have also had some famous actors who attended as guests.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Definately mini sausage patties coated in honey mustard.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
I'm rarely up at midnight as I start work early in the morning! But if I was it would be nice cheeses, crackers and a glass of wine.
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Apart from being in the same ownership since 1974! - The library is a particularly unique room with its conical ceiling. It's the perfect setting for a small wedding or celebration (and looks amazing when decorated for Christmas!)
What part of your business are you most proud of?
I am proud of the position I hold because its great to be an ambassador for a venue that has such an excellent reputation. Its great to be part of a fantastic team - everyone is committed to playing their part in making each customer's experience perfect.
