Describe the best wedding that happened at St Tewdrics House?
Every wedding that takes place at St Tewdrics House is special in its own way so it would be impossible for us to pick out one as being better than the others. Some of our favourite weddings are the ones where the couple have hired the venue for three days rather than just their wedding day. We love welcoming guests the day before and being part of the pre-wedding excitement and then seeing the celebrations continue the day after the wedding too. There's something really special about extending the celebrations with your nearest and dearest.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Make it personal. Your wedding day should be a reflection of you as a couple so we think it's lovely when couples add those little personal touches to make their wedding feel even more special and unique. That could be something as simple as incorporating your favourite colour into your colour scheme, naming your tables after places you have visited together with a photo or story to match each place or putting framed photographs on the mantlepieces in our Reception Rooms to make the venue feel more like your own home. We've even had couples who have created their own wedding scent to spray around the venue as a reminder of the day!
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
A personal touch that stands out to us is one couple who had the bride's nans toffee tart as their dessert during the wedding breakfast. It was a family tradition that nan made her special toffee tart for every family occasion and the bride didn't want her wedding to be any different. Our fabulous caterers took nan's recipe and recreated the toffee tart. It was such a special touch and was a great talking point amongst guests too.
Describe St Tewdrics House in 5 adjectives
Exclusive, luxurious, personal, flexible, award-winning.
Where’s the best photo spot at St Tewdrics House?
There are too many to mention - photographers always comment about how wonderful St Tewdrics House is to photograph! In the summer months, our favourite photo spot has got to be our stunning wildflower meadow which provides the most breathtakingly beautiful backdrop for a wedding. In the winter months, our pergola is a gorgeous place for photos during the day but also at night. Indoors, our feature staircase is always a popular photo spot, especially with the bride's dress flowing beautifully down the stairs.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at St Tewdrics House?
Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas, actually owns St Tewdrics House. Geraint and his wife, Sara, were the first couple to hold their wedding reception at St Tewdrics House and our journey of being part of wonderful weddings has continued since then!
What’s your favourite canapé?
Our favourite canape is the Italian chicken 99" cornetto - they look like mini 99" cornetto ice creams but they are filled with the most delicious smoked chicken mousse. They are served on sticks which are displayed in a wooden log slice, so they not only taste delicious but have the wow factor when they are served too. Another popular canape with our couples and guests is the sticky honey & grain mustard Gloucester old spot sausage.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
You can't beat a slice of pizza (or two!) after an evening of busting out moves on the dance floor. Pizza is the go to evening food option for most of our couples and is always popular with guests too.
What is St Tewdrics House most unique feature?
Our most unique feature is our seasonal wildflower meadow which surrounds the venue. It flowers from May to August and provides the most stunning backdrop for a summer wedding. We cut paths through it so that our couples and their photographers can wander through and stop in amongst the flowers for a perfect photo. Guests also love exploring through the meadow and seeing where they end up.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
Our flexibility and transparency - it really is the heart of the business. We pride ourselves on being as flexible as we can and love nothing more than helping our couples to make their wedding truly unique and personal to them. We are also completely up front and transparent about all prices and everything we can offer at St Tewdrics so there won't be any hidden surprises further down the line.
