Built in 1794 for the 5th Duke of Bedford, this elegant hotel in the heart of Bedford overlooks the River Ouse; the perfect location for a fairy-tale wedding. This stunning venue has beautiful 18th-century architecture and an impressive outlook onto the river, perfect for wedding photos. The Bedford Swan is a licensed venue for civil ceremonies meaning that you can keep your wedding and reception all in the one place and the guests can enjoy staying the night in our luxury rooms, keeping travel to a minimum. Our wedding coordinators have the skills, contacts and experience to help your big day run like clockwork. We had our wedding at here and we honestly couldn’t be happier with our experience. Amie was amazing in the lead-up, helping with the planning, answering our flurry of questions, and making sure we felt completely confident about the day. On the day itself, everything ran so smoothly. The staff were incredible, the venue was beautiful, and the food was absolutely amazing. We recently celebrated our wedding at The Swan Hotel on 24th August 2025, and it truly exceeded all of our expectations. From the very start, the event planning was superb. A special mention to Sommy, who was incredibly helpful. throughout. Tom (GM) and Sommy together, who went above and beyond to make our dream wedding day a reality. The food was amazing, and the service was impeccable – every detail was handled so smoothly. The events team were friendly, professional, and so efficient that they took away all the stresses of planning, allowing us to simply enjoy the day. The State Room was a stunning setting – regal, elegant, and absolutely perfect for our wedding. Many of our guests stayed overnight at the hotel and were all delighted with their rooms, which were beautiful and extremely well priced. We cannot thank the team enough for everything they did to make our wedding so memorable. What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

Each of the weddings that take place at the Swan have their own personal touches, that is why we love our couples as they really make sure the day represents themselves.

Charming, Elegant, Stylish, Historic, Romantic & Unique.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

Outside the hotel by the river. In addition, we have wonderful picture spots within the hotel.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

We have had high VIPs staying with us on quiet a few different occasions.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Either the Crispy Bocconcini, Balsamic Tomato with Basil or the Honey, Sesame and Soy Glazed Chicken

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Wedding cake, we save a couple of slices for our couples so that they can take this back to their room and enjoy it as it tends to go quite quickly during the party.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

Our historic elements of the hotel, such as our staircase leading to one of our ceremony rooms which has been there for thousands of years, our afternoon tea space & terrace are also lovely spots with great views of the Great River Ouse.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

We have kept our historic charm but modernized areas of the hotel which guests and staff love, we are an independent family business and treat every guests with a warm welcome from arriving to departing. We all genuinely love our jobs and being part of the planning stages of our couples big day.
