Full Description
This 14th century, Grade II listed, Sheriff Hutton Castle was at one time the grandest castle in Northern England. It was a favourite residence of Richard III and Henry VIII also owned it. steeped in 600 years of royal history. Located just 25 minutes north of York in the quaint village of Sheriff Hutton. The truly magical 600 year old Sounding Hall has a licence for 58 people and the huge courtyard is a spectacular back drop for a photographs while your guest take in the stunning ruins with a drink in hand. We also have accommodation on site for 4 couples (residents have use of the courtyard during their stay) with more accommodation in walking distance. The local village hall, 5 minutes walk away also hosts receptions which is an option for a smaller budget but still allows you to have time at the castle during your ceremony.

Beautiful and unique venue
What a beautiful and unique venue. I will never forget the first time I walked into the Sounding Hall. It truly takes your breath away. You are free to make the venue your own, which is one of the many positives about this venue. No two weddings will be the same. The Sounding Hall is magnificent. Beautiful on its own or dressed up with flowers and was the perfect location for our ceremony. The grounds offer a perfect location to entertain your guests. The green is enclosed by the walls of Sheriff Hutton Castle. When lit up at night, you can enjoy the venue into the evening too. Natasia was very accommodating, friendly, and easy to converse with. Arranging numerous visits to site for ourselves, family, and marquee company was made simple. Communication was prompt and clear. On the day, Pat went above and beyond what I expected to ensure the day ran smoothly. From providing me a full-length mirror, to ensuring guests got parked, it all really helped take the stress out of the day. The extra touches such as suggestions on locations for photos and sharing ideas with Natasia for dressing the hall was really appreciated. As was feeding the lambs on the morning of our wedding! This was definitely a highlight. The venue is exceptional, and I am so pleased to have been able to hold our wedding at Sheriff Hutton Castle.
