Believed to be the inspiration for Barton Park in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, we think you will agree that Pynes House is a wonderful place to host your perfect wedding weekend. Built in the beautiful Exe Valley in about 1700, just three miles from the centre of Exeter, Pynes House makes the ideal year-round private retreat for intimate groups or larger wedding ceremonies and receptions. During the summer, make the most of our manicured lawns, ornamental terraces and pretty woodland, and in the winter enjoy the cosy romance of our beautiful interiors, stunning views and open log fires. We specialise in country house wedding weekends so that you can spread your wedding celebrations across the weekend and make the most of gathering your closest friends and family in one place. Alongside luxurious accommodation for up to 28, there are a number of magnificent state rooms, with capacity to seat up to 96 for a sit-down meal. For larger weddings, or if you’d like your wedding reception to be outside, a marquee can be positioned on the lawns. With the house as a magnificent backdrop and surrounded by breathtaking countryside, the grounds of this charming wedding venue in Exeter are the perfect setting for a marquee and outdoor celebration. I fell in love with Pynes House when we first visited with my son and daughter-in-law 2 years ago. After a tour around, I was very emotional at the thought they would get married in this beautiful house and grounds. We stayed for 3 nights and had such a fabulous time and would highly recommend this venue for anyone getting married or any occasion. Love the new patio area overlooking such beautiful views. We got married at Pynes House in October 2025, and it was truly everything we could have dreamed of and more. From the moment you arrive, the house is utterly breathtaking — every room and every finish is exquisitely considered and perfectly in keeping with the history of the house, creating a real sense of occasion and grandeur for the entire weekend. One of the things that made it so special was being able to fully immerse ourselves in the house. With 12 beautiful bedrooms, we were able to have 22 of our closest family and friends stay on site, which completely transformed the experience into a relaxed, joyful and unforgettable weekend rather than just a single day. The Pynes House team were exceptional from start to finish — warm, professional, calm and incredibly thoughtful. Nothing ever felt stressful; everything was handled seamlessly and with such genuine care that we were able to be fully present and enjoy every moment. Our guests were effusive about the venue, the atmosphere and the experience, and we honestly couldn’t recommend Pynes House highly enough. Pynes House was the most perfect setting for our wedding, we loved every minute! Being able to have the venue for the whole weekend really made it extra special and we were so glad to be able to extend the celebrations. The house, rooms and grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained. The gorgeous, stately yet cosy Pynes House formed the backdrop for our dream wedding in May 2025. It really was the perfect venue – set behind the rolling hills just outside of Exeter, the house exuded class and character and has been impeccably maintained. Just a 5-minute drive from Exeter St David’s station, its location couldn’t have been more convenient, although it always felt incredibly private thanks to a long driveway leading up to the house, lined by stately fir trees. Whilst spacious and versatile, it also retained warmth and cosiness due to its elegant proportions. The grounds were also spectacular; with the rose garden and wisteria really coming to life on a sunny spring day during our drinks reception. For our Saturday wedding, we loved being able to check in on Friday afternoon, checking out at midday on Sunday. Spending the whole weekend in the house with our closest family and friends made the whole occasion feel like an extended big house party. The Pynes House team were responsive, warm and approachable, providing clear instructions throughout and leading up to our big day – a quality we really appreciated given the uncertainties of wedding planning. A huge shoutout to Jay and the drinks team who went out of their way to make us a delicious lychee martini the moment we returned from church as newlyweds. It was the best day of our lives and we are so happy to have celebrated at Pynes House. Pynes House was simply perfect! From our first visit, we knew it was the place we would get married. The house and grounds and beautiful and the guest rooms are gorgeous. The variety of spaces indoor and out meant we could plan our day in exactly the way we wanted and the open days were so helpful to take our families and get excited! Would absolutely recommend Pynes to any couple! Pynes House was simply perfect! From our first visit, we knew it was the place we would get married. The house and grounds and beautiful and the guest rooms are gorgeous. Our guests were blown away by Pynes House, it was so lovely on the day to hear their overwhelmingly positive experiences of staff and the surroundings. Everyone in the team worked exceptionally hard to bring our vision to life. Many of our friends have spoken about stressful they found the process of planning their wedding. But my husband and I felt totally supported by the whole team at Pynes, through every step of planning to the day itself. Jay the drinks manager was so helpful and accommodating with our bespoke requests. The team at Pickle Shack created an outstanding menu and the service was fantastic. We must also mention Phoebe from Pynes House, who made us feel some welcome and whose timeline for the day meant that we didn't feel like we needed to oversee anything.Our guests were blown away by Pynes House, it was so lovely on the day to hear their overwhelmingly positive experiences of staff and the surroundings. What a Dream! What a Dream!
We had the best weekend at Pynes House for our November wedding. Communication from Kate & Heather was excellent and it really was a stress-free process. Phoebe (events manager on the day) was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. The house and grounds are beautiful and we felt so at home during our stay. Honestly could not fault the venue. We feel so lucky to have had our special day at Pynes.We had the best weekend at Pynes House for our November wedding. We got married at Pynes House in September 2023. From the moment we saw Pynes House we knew it was perfect. An idyllic setting, a smooth operation and the kindest of owners, bar staff and coordinators. No question was a hassle and we felt in safe hands. Perfect Weekend! Perfect Weekend!
We booked Pynes House as our wedding venue without having visited, so that made it all the more sweeter when we showed up and it felt like we walked into a fairy tale. The house is spectacular and the grounds were absolutely beautiful with the colorful gardens and the rolling hills in the background. We had an amazing sunny day one night and a rainy day another night, but regardless of the weather conditions, the venue's charm shone through. It was also incredibly fun to have our closest friends and family staying under one roof for the entire weekend. We couldn't imagine a better venue and location and we're so happy we chose it sight unseen! Our assigned day-of planner, Natalie, was amazing, too. We talked through our vision with her, and when the weekend arrived, she executed it perfectly. We didn't have to worry about anything, which allowed us to fully enjoy our weekend. Thank you to Pynes House for giving us some of our best memories! Stuck with us through it allStuck with us through it all
Not only was the value the most beautiful place we had ever seen. My wife-to-be ended up having emergency heart surgery the day of our flight to the UK for our wedding. We had to cancel last minute. Instead of punishing us, the whole team graciously postponed our wedding so that we could celebrate at a later date. Beautiful venue. First class hosts. Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

There are so many to choose from both inside and outside as our huge windows mean there is heaps of natural light in our rooms. Outside, there are lots of gorgeous spots, but photographers particularly love the epic tree-lined drive which gets the perfect light for the "golden hour".

Our focus on weekend weddings is our passion. The house is your country manor home for the weekend and from the moment guests drive up to the entrance, it really has the "wow" factor. There are so many beautiful and historical details in the house which have been sensitively enhanced with timeless and stylish decoration.
