Full Description
Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, is an outdoor museum of rescued and reconstructed historic buildings and working farm set in 45 acres of beautiful woodland and countryside. This quirky and charming site provides a very unique location for a wedding ceremony and reception, and a great backdrop for your wedding photographs. The Museum has 35 reconstructed buildings, seven of which are now licenced for civil ceremonies including an Iron Age roundhouse (believed to be the only one licenced for civil ceremonies in the country), tin chapel, Victorian toll house and Medieval barns. The Museum is available on a dry hire basis only. There are no restrictions on suppliers and no corkage fees allowing you to plan a wedding suited to your own style. There are three barn wedding venues available: Northolt barn, Skippings barn, and Arborfield barn all of which are licenced for civil ceremonies. The Victorian toll house, Iron Age roundhouse, Henton tin chapel, and Thame Vicarage are also licenced for civil ceremonies. Each building can be hired separately, or as part of a combined package to increase capacity and spread your wedding across the beautiful site. If you are hiring Skippings Barn you can also hire your own marquee to go in the field next to it at no additional charge. The Museum has a list suppliers who are familiar with the site or wedding couples are welcome to bring in their own suppliers if they would prefer, all the Museum asks is that they provide them with copies of their insurance and health and safety documents.

We held our wedding here and booked a tour for our guests
We held our wedding here and booked a tour for our guests. It's a really casual low key venue nothing over manufactured. Lots of picnic areas and space for children to run around. We appreciated the free water bottle filling station. We had a great day here.

Victorian Toll House wedding
We wanted a small relaxed wedding with our (small) budget being spent on what mattered to us. I also wanted a gorgeous building, only us for the actual ceremony and a relaxed, bring and share vibe for the food without me or our guests doing the work! The Victorian Toll House was just wonderful. It's a very budget friendly price if you can do a weekday which meant we could splash out on a tour of the museum and lunch and cream tea in the herb garden. It was all done by the museum team which gave me the homemade vibe I was after, without the work or dealing with outside suppliers. Everyone said it was the best wedding they'd been to in years because it was so relaxed and they felt able to really enjoy themselves.
