We booked this venue in January 2020 (pre pandemic) for July 2021. Unaware about the chaos and stress that was about to ensue. The pandemic hit and we were constantly worried about the wedding going ahead with all the restrictions that were in place. We’d hoped that by July 2021, things would be more normal. Up until this point everything seemed fine in terms of interaction with the owners. Fast forward to May/June 2021 and the restrictions had been extended. Meaning we’d have to cut our guest list, couldn’t have music etc. Far from the special day we’d planned. We explained this to the owners, hoping they’d sympathise but they couldn’t have cared less. We asked to rearrange. They ‘allowed’ us to rearrange but at an extortionate cost to us - despite us urging them for a fair compromise. They advised us we’d have to pay 100% cost of the original date we wouldn’t and didn’t have, AND 50% of the new date and this was non negotiable. (Baring in mind as nothing happened on our original date, the losses directly associated with our day would be very small). During this time Henry was extremely unpleasant to us. I understand businesses were under pressure at this time, but businesses also had significant financial support from the government via grants and being able to furlough staff etc - which I’m sure Huntsmill farm made the most of. We spoke to a solicitor for legal advice, but simply didn’t have the funds to proceed down the legal route, so we had no choice but to pay. On our wedding day, Henry barely said two words to us. In fact any conversation with Henry following the arrangement of the new date felt very curt, negative and stressful. Had I known they were just out for money and had no morals, I would have spent mine and my husbands hard earned money elsewhere. I don’t wish anyone to have the same experience we did.
