Facilities and Capacity:
Inside The Retreat, you can choose from 6 beautiful spaces to hold your Civil Ceremony. With our largest room accommodating up to 80 Guests for your Ceremony and our smallest accommodating up to 6 guests, there are lots of options for you both to think about! During the warmer months, we offer outdoor Ceremonies - what could be more beautiful than exchanging vows with views of the Wessex Downs as your backdrop! We also offer Exclusive Hire of The Retreat.
Once you've tied the knot, you and your guests will enjoy a delicious Wedding Breakfast and Toast as the new couple. A fun Evening Reception will then unfold whilst you mingle, sip wine and dance while the sun sets over the Wessex Downs.
Located on sixteen acres of gorgeous grounds, with a sweeping staircase and a grand fireplace, there are many beautiful backdrops for photos!
As well as 55 individually styled bedrooms and suites, two stunning restaurants and an indulgent spa, there’s also a heated outdoor pool, a charming courtyard with a wine cellar and TV Chef Clodagh McKenna’s first signature store, as well as a Hair & Nail Salon, perfect for the bridal party’s finishing touches.

A huge thank you to our incredible planner, Ella, who was truly one of the most important parts of making our weekend so magical.We are a US couple with mostly US guests, and it was so special to bring everyone we love together for a weekend in the English countryside. From the moment we arrived, it was everything we could have dreamed of for our wedding weekend — and somehow even more. We are a US couple with mostly US guests, and it was so special to bring everyone we love together for a weekend in the English countryside. Having our wedding at the Retreat turned out to be the best decision we could have made. We had around 120 guests for a black-tie wedding, and our family and friends absolutely fell in love with The Retreat, the countryside, and the entire experience. Nearly every guest commented on how incredibly friendly, attentive and welcoming the entire staff were. They genuinely went above and beyond at every turn. A huge part of that was our wonderful planner, Ella. From the very beginning, she brought our vision to life and somehow made it even better than we could have imagined. She cared about our wedding as though it were her own, and her excitement and genuine investment in the weekend made us even more excited ourselves. On the day, she was our calm in the middle of everything - helping clean my dress while we were getting ready, making sure my brother had a flashlight so he could read his speech at dinner, and quietly making sure every detail was taken care of. She made us feel like guests at our own wedding, which is an incredible gift. We truly could not have done it without her. Every part of the weekend was so thoughtfully executed. Ed organized the most fun padel tournament complete with Pimms, which was the perfect way to kick off the celebrations. Nick created the most beautiful dining experience throughout the entire weekend, and every meal felt incredibly special. The whole team seemed to genuinely care about making our guests happy. And it was the little things that really showed how exceptional the staff are. After the wedding, I realized I hadn’t saved any of our menus and was genuinely so sad about it. One of the staff members, Kate, actually went and retrieved them from the rubbish for me! It sounds like such a small thing, but it perfectly captures the level of care we experienced all weekend. The Retreat was the most perfect place we could have chosen to get married and spend an entire weekend with the people we love most. It felt elegant, timeless, GORGEOUS, warm and completely magical, while still feeling incredibly relaxed and personal. Our guests are still talking about the weekend, and so are we. We will be forever grateful to Ella and the entire team for giving us a wedding weekend that was truly beyond anything we could have imagined. We were very excited to hear of the Secret Garden opening earlier this year so made the decision to move our day here, and it was the best decision ever! We were so well looked after by all of the staff and Ella ensured everything went perfectly on the day.
