Full Description
To create your dream wedding you require a fairytale location. New House Farm situated in the stunning Lorton valley and surrounded by the Lakeland Fells is that unique and special place. Originally built in 1650, New House Farm has retained many of its original features but combines them with a touch of elegance and sophistication to create an atmosphere of a bygone era. Sitting rooms with open log fires, individually designed bedrooms with heavenly beds, delicious duvets and wonderful changing views go to create this unique private venue. The secluded gardens, babbling brooks, enchanting pond and stunning Lake District scenery add the finishing touches to a fairytale wedding and provide the perfect backdrop for memorable romantic photographs. The wedding receptions are held in The Hayloft of an original Lakeland barn which has been restored to the highest standards with traditional materials. Bright and airy with a graceful combination of rustic chic and modern facilities the oak beams are offset by the natural exposed stone walls. The Hayloft can cater for up to 130 people with the added benefit of having its own professional kitchen. This stunning blank canvas allows you to put your style and mark on your special day. Exclusive use will provide you with two nights of accommodation in our bespoke country house. New House Farm is a perfect location for your winter wedding. Surrounded by stunning scenery, rolling hills that go on for miles, what better setting could you ask for of crisp snow-topped mountains and glistening waters. Our winter weddings run from November until mid-March, at a reduced costing. For smaller weddings we offer a mid-week wedding package which is available at a reduced cost. You will have access to the barn from Sunday Afternoon until your special day to decorate how you please. For intimate weddings with up to 20, our licensed room within our country house will create the perfect backdrop for your special day.

The most magical wedding venue!
New House Farm is the most amazing venue! From the very first time we visited , we knew it was the perfect place for us to get married. We had our ceremony in the newly built ‘Cow Shed’, a beautiful room with a stunning backdrop of the mountains and fields. The lawn and grounds were perfect for drinks, canapés and lawn games after the ceremony. We had our wedding breakfast and evening reception in the Hayloft, which just looked magical all decorated with fairy lights. One of the best things about the venue is the people. Every single member of staff at New House Farm was so friendly and helped to make our day perfect! We especially have to thank Hazel, who truly is a Wonder Woman! As soon as we met Hazel, we immediately felt at ease and welcomed. She was so enthusiastic and never stopped! She was there to help us every step of the way. Everything about the venue was perfect and we had the most amazing day! So many guests commented on how fabulous the venue was. We loved that we were able to completely personalise every part of our wedding, making it unique to us. Everyone at New House Farm helped our day to run smoothly and we can’t thank them enough! We would 100% recommend New House Farm if you’re looking for a beautiful venue with stunning views and the most friendly and fun atmosphere. Mr and Mrs Bannister 18th August 2022 xxx

Absolutely perfect
We loved getting married here. The views were amazing and our guests had the time of their lives. You have to be prepared to organise everything such as caterers and furniture etc however Hazel is so helpful and recommended suppliers that we used and loved. The actual buildings didn’t need much in the way of decor as we loved the simple but beautiful features that were there. Wish we could do it all over again!

Simply the most magical venue in the world
We had our wedding at NHF in June 2022 and all I can say it was truly amazing. The venue was presented spectacularly, Hazel and her team were amazing and so helpful in the run up to and on the day of our wedding, nothing was too much trouble. We had beautiful weather which just created the perfect backdrop for the most stunning venue. Both buildings are finished to the highest standard and the rooms were of equal standard. If anyone is thinking of getting married here I would 100% recommend it to anyone as our day was world class and that was definitely partly down to the amazing venue that is New House Farm.

Best weekend of our life!!
We booked our wedding at New House Farm just before lockdown came in 2020! We fell in love with the venue immediately, it was just what we wanted. The new ceremony barn was getting built when we 1st viewed, when we went again to see it we were blown away! To say the next 2 years were a bit nerve wrecking would be an understatement. But Hazel was always on hand to keep us updated and settle our nerves. We had some phone calls and countless emails over time checking in and discussing plans for the wedding, and what ifs/buts. Also on hand to recommend suppliers from tables, chairs, linen etc. Extremely luckily for us, our original wedding date went ahead – 12th March 2022. No restrictions necessary!! What a weekend!! Hazel kindly allowed us to drop some bits off on Thursday, then we arrived on the Friday morning ready for the best weekend. We had guests arriving at the venue and we had also booked Scale Hill, which is owned by Hazel’s family – definitely recommend booking this too!! The rooms are amazing! Even though we were here, there and everywhere and multiple people coming and going Hazel was so friendly and accommodating to everyone, and little Henry was an added bonus. The most cuddly, friendly little pooch! All the rooms at New House Farm are fantastic, we struggled to decide which to sleep in!! Having a same sex marriage we wanted to keep the surprise of seeing one another until walking down the aisle and Hazel was amazing at helping us do this, helping with timings, meeting of the registrars etc. She was just so helpful with every aspect! Keeping us topped with prosecco too! Our day was absolutely perfect, it went like a dream and the blink of an eye. We always wanted a laid back wedding, not rushing around and timed to a certain itinerary and think Hazel helped with this massively. We disappeared for an hour or so to get some pictures by the lake with Spike (do it!! We loved this). When we got back the drinks were flowing, guests were chatting and laughing. Was absolutely perfect! We sat down to eat and do speeches about 4pm and Hazel and the team kept all the wine flowing, toasting drinks topped up too! Coming from a family of talkers our speeches lasted a little longer than expected and our night guests were due to arrive but Hazel came up with a quick plan which worked a treat – it meant we got to greet all of our evening guests one by one and everyone have a little mingle. The night went without any problems, everyone dancing and music playing! Hazel even letting us know the bus had arrived and giving those guests a good kick up the backside to not miss the bus. Hazel is such a bubbly, chatty character that I think she will get on with everyone, you can tell she absolutely loves her job and it shows! We cannot fault our day, it truly was the best day of our life, we loved every minute. If we could go and do it all again we would, and we would not change one thing!! We will back on our wedding anniversaries to try out the amazing baths and bag some Wainwrights.

Spectacular Day!
A huge thank you to Hazel and the team at New House Farm, My wife and I recently got married at New House Farm in September and couldn't have asked for a better Day! The venue itself is gorgeous, the rooms are stunning and the staff were absolute gems! Being our first time we weren't sure what to expect or really how to plan for our big day, but Hazel referred us to some outstanding wedding suppliers that are familiar with her venue and the day went without a hitch. Having Hazel and the team on hand throughout the day was a huge help, everyone from the caterers to the bar team and Hazel herself made everything so easy for us, we didn't have to stress about anything and instead were able to focus on the most important thing, Enjoying our day! We'll be recommending anyone who asks about getting married in the Lake District to give Hazel a call at New House Farm before they look anywhere else! Can't say it enough, but thanks again for such a wonderful day. Tom & Maisie

Just to say a HUGE thank you for the best weekend of our lives!
Just to say a HUGE thank you for the best weekend of our lives. We truly had a special weekend and 1 that we will remember & cherish for the rest of our lives. Thank you for your super organisation, efficiency with everything, support, positivity and for being so helpful to not only us, but our friends & family that stayed at New House Farm & Scale Hill Cottages. Everyone had an incredible time from when they arrived to the beautiful settings, all the way through until they sadly said goodbye to your beautiful, popular dogs & horses!! The picnic & walk/swim on the Sunday morning at Crummock Water was really special to complete our weekend, as well as Sunday evening having a meal at the Hundith Hotel. You have an absolutely stunning place and we love coming up to Lorton, Cockermouth, Crummock Water, Buttermere & swimming & hiking! Already, we can’t wait to come back and visit. We will send you some photographs this weekend when our photographer sends them through. Thanks again for everything, Love, Mr & Mrs O’Briain ;-) x

Travel Notes

By car Some Sat Navs take you a very strange way and in fact lead you to a farmhouse four fields away. Sadly, in the countryside you can’t rely on being taken straight to the correct door. Postcodes will get you to the general vicinity and some even mange to bring you straight here, but they seem to go berserk about a couple of miles out. Bring back the good old map I say! Try Google Map searching for ‘New House Farm’ and the post code ‘CA13 9UU’ and that should work. Otherwise For anyone travelling from the North or South, exit at junction 40 of the M6 and head west to Keswick and Cockermouth on the A66. The road bypasses Keswick and about 2 miles further on there is a road going left over Whinlatter Pass on the B5289 which takes you over to Lorton. Continue along this road for about 4 miles until the T junction then head left for Lorton – the SAT NAV will try to tempt you off to the left down various narrow roads before you get to this T junction – do not be tempted. Do not take any further turnings, just follow the road. Carry on through the bottom end of Lorton and down the valley for about 2 miles. New House Farm is on the left-hand side with a Cumberland or a St George flag flying (depending on how I am feeling). There is a big sign for New House Farm, a large barn, an off-white house edge in black and probably horses or sheep in the field. By train The nearest Railway Station is Penrith and the journey by car from there takes between 30 and 40 minutes
