We were due to have our wedding here in September 2020 but like many others, covid had other ideas. Douglas was very helpful, letting us move our dates twice. We ended up having a small ceremony in June for the legal part and then the original wedding plan in September 2021. The venue has a really nice flow for weddings, with the ceremony room flowing out into a lobby which leads out to the grounds, and also leads onto the recception room, so even though we didnt pay to have exclusivity it felt like we did as the wedding side of the hotel is separated from the rest of where the guests frequent. The reception room and lobby has a bar solely for the wedding guests, which we really liked as it kept everything contained and meant that if people didnt want to dance and just wanted to chat by the bar they were able to still stay part of the wedding space and was really nice to have our older relatives still be very much part of the reception and have everyone in one room. The grounds are really nice as well, and it is round the corner from Newlands Corner, a lovely romantic spot with the best views for miles. The bridal suite was really lovely with a jacuzzi bath tub which was really brilliant! Douglas and his team are great, although when Douglas was off sick one day things were a little hectic, but as soon as he was back things were great again! The wedding food was nice, although it was different to our taster menu as they had changed chefs, but that is what happens when you have to postpone for a year! Overall I would recommend looking at this as a wedding venue if you want a venue that provides great atmoshphere and a self contained area to keep everyone as part of the wedding then look no further. Another plus was that a lot of the decorations, such as sashes, the ceiling drapes and fairy lights, the lanterns and the cherry blossom trees were all included as part of the package. Also their house DJ Alvin from Be Majestic Entertainment who was absolutely brilliant and even got our 80year old relatives on the dancefloor! The only thing i would say is there is no lift, so make sure to advise guests who can't manage stairs request a groundfloor room. Also I would advise checking that you can have access the day before to set up and ideally access the day after for breakdown as that makes things so much easier! We didnt get to try the spa unfortunatley, we were hoping to use it after we had checked out but we didnt realise that isn't allowed as they have other day guests using to so you can only use it when you are still staying. But i had friends who used it and they said it was lovely, the outside jacuzzi looked really inviting too, reminded me of iceland!
