Looking for a unique, historic venue for your special day? From the soaring oak-beamed Great Hall, to the contemporary glass wall of the Foyle Gallery, Dragon Hall offers a stunning setting for your wedding celebration. Fully licensed for weddings and civil partnerships, we host beautiful ceremonies, receptions and evening parties.
We offer a Wedding Package that gives you the time and flexibility to relax and enjoy your special day. Our Package includes:
- Use of the venue across THREE DAYS, so you have plenty of time to set up and add your personal finishing touches
- Exclusive use of the Great Hall, Gallery and Medieval Courtyard Garden spaces on your wedding day
- A dedicated Wedding & Events Manager to assist you with your plans during the months, weeks and days leading up to your special day
- Two discreet venue managers and SIA Licensed door support, responsible for overseeing the building and ensuring your day runs smoothly
- Ceremony and dining space for 10 to 90 guests
- Chairs and tables for 10 to 90 dining guests (no upgrade fees!)
- Party space for 120 guests
- Use of a private retiring room for you and your celebrant
- Use of a kitchen and an approved list of caterers (catering, tableware and decorations not included)

Our magnificent building is home to the National Centre for Writing, a literary charity helping writers at all stages of their careers. All proceeds generated through weddings and events support our charitable work and the restoration and maintenance of Dragon Hall. If you would like to find out more, our dedicated Events Manager, Christina, would be happy to show you around the beautiful venue and even share a few of the building's secret stories, which go back hundreds of years!

As Dragon Hall's dedicated Events Manager, it gives me great pleasure to help couples plan their perfect wedding day at our incredible venue.

We offer a flat-rate package, year round! Our package includes:
- Exclusive use of the venue across three days (usually Friday – Sunday), so you have plenty of time to set up and add your personal finishing touches.

The Great Hall is absolutely stunning and unlike anywhere else we looked. We loved the character, history and atmosphere of the venue, and it gave us exactly the feel we wanted for our wedding day. We were looking for something with the warmth and charm of a barn wedding, but with enough indoor space that our guests would be comfortable throughout our October wedding whatever the weather decided to do. The combination of the Great Hall and the Gallery provided exactly that, creating a beautiful, cosy and intimate setting for the whole day. In the immediate run-up to the wedding, Christina was fantastic. She was responsive, efficient and organised, and it was clear she had built great relationships with our suppliers and was keeping everything moving behind the scenes. On the day before the wedding, Christina and the other duty managers were brilliant at helping us get everything organised and making sure all the details were in place. On the day itself, everything looked absolutely stunning. Not only did the team execute our plans perfectly, but they also added thoughtful touches that elevated everything even further. Christina's creative vision was beautiful, and we loved how she incorporated some of our spare styling items around the sweetheart table to make the whole space feel even more special. What really stood out throughout the process was how personal the service felt. Every request we made was handled quickly and seamlessly, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. At the same time, it was obvious that the Dragon Hall team are incredibly experienced at delivering weddings. Everything ran so smoothly that we were able to relax and enjoy the day, confident that everything was under control. A particularly lovely touch was the book bundle we received as a wedding gift. The hand-curated selection was such a thoughtful present and something that was very unique to Dragon Hall as the National Centre for Writing. Not only is it a beautiful venue, but it's connection to the National Centre for Writing (where the cost of the venue goes to support their work), where I was an Escalator 2016 winner, and the fact my husband worked there as a Duty Manager as well as a performance poet around the same time, meant it was part of our own story. From the beams to the bricks, the venue was perfect. Planning our wedding across the three stories was easy (with only a minor hiccup of there being no WiFi in the cellar) and Christina was an absolute marvel who made every planning session and the very day calm and collected. We felt so honoured to be married in the Great Hall, and the whole venue was truly the star of our fey-themed wedding. The book bundle we were given as a wedding present was completely on point - from the latest V.E. Schwab (YAY!) to a travel guide around New Zealand and folklore books in-between, it was like we chose the titles ourselves. You will not get a better team, a better venue or have a better time than in these walls. The National Centre for Writing is based in the beautiful medieval Dragon Hall, a magnificent timbered trading hall and courtyard garden located in the heart of Norwich UNESCO City of Literature. It is easily accessible from the city centre and is a five-minute walk from the train station.

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
We hosted a fantastic LARPer wedding, where all the guests dressed up in medieval garb. It was incredibly unique and perfectly suited to the character of our wonderful 15th Century building.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
I recommend that the bride and groom separately make a list of priorities for their wedding, and then compare notes. That way you will know what aspects of the wedding are the most important to one another and you can focus on those when planning your special day.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
As the National Centre for Writing by day, we love a book! One couple asked guests to bring a book to swap instead of a gift, which resulted in some lovely literary chats amongst guests. Another couple kindly chose a book for each guest as a wedding favour, accompanied by a personalised bookmark
