Bury St Edmunds is often described as the “Jewel in the Crown of Suffolk”. This beautiful town combines a history that can be traced back over 1,000 years with easy access to award-winning dining and hospitality. The town is acknowledged as the ‘foodie’ capital of Suffolk, with Michelin-starred and award-winning restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. It’s easily accessible from all directions, just off the A14, with links to London via the M11 and the Midlands via the A1. There’s a wide selection of hotels within walking distance of the venue – a perfect place for guests to stay and explore.
The Guildhall is part of the closely woven history of Bury St Edmunds in the preserved Medieval Grid. This beautiful Grade 1 listed venue dates to the mid-1100s and is the oldest continuously used civic building in Britain. It’s also home to the only surviving World War Two Royal Observer Corps Operations Room in the country. It offers a choice of unique spaces for your wedding day: Georgian Banqueting Hall, oak-panelled Court Room or the walled gardens (or even the Ops Room).
The versatility of this venue is not to be underestimated. It’s equally suited to intimate elopement ceremonies or full wedding days for up to 80 people for the ceremony and sit-down reception and 120 for an evening party. For elopement or small ceremonies, the Robing Room offers an intimate space for up to 12 guests. The Guildhall has an on-site catering kitchen which gives you the freedom to choose a caterer to suit your tastes and budget. You also have the flexibility to choose your preferred suppliers for all aspects of your special day (entertainers, florists, prop hire. etc.). If you need a helping hand, we would be happy to make recommendations and can provide a fully stocked and staffed bar.
