Appleby Castle Full Description
Open secret gates and follow the ancient Yew Walk leading to an intimate and romantic rotunda to exchange vows. Explore the grounds and our private stretch of the river Eden embracing the countryside. Climb your way to the top of Appleby's 11th Century Norman Keep and exchange vows overlooking the glorious Eden Valley. Ceremonies can be also held inside the castle, surrounded by alluring paintings on the ancient walls of the Great Hall and one of the only full reproductions of the Clifford armor in the world. The Lower Hall and outside terrace provide wonderful spots to raise a glass with your guests, taking in the authentic setting and beautiful scenery. Appleby Castle boasts a stay of the utmost luxury, offering a number of exquisite bedrooms throughout the castle. Many of the stunning rooms are home to ornate four-poster beds and boast lots of period features for a traditional stay, while the thoughtfully renovated servant's quarters provide light and comfortable accommodation for your friends and family. Appleby Castle has a lengthy and vibrant past. This elegant venue was the residence of Lady Anne Clifford, daughter of George Clifford, who once owned the castle; Queen Elizabeth I’s champion jouster and founder of the East India Company. Appleby Castle is also home to the Norman Centre, which is one of the only in-tact Norman Keeps in the United Kingdom and it is over 900 years old. Couples can now walk the same path as renowned historic figures and be a part of the story of this incredible castle. They say exchanging vows in an ancient place blesses couples with eternal love. We focus on stories and details to gift unique memories.
