One of the highlights of my daughter's wedding

OMG this is definitely going to be one of the highlights of my daughter's wedding....I was trying to think of something unique for the seating chart, so when I found Laura I was excited but NEVER in my wildest dreams did I imagine anything so extraordinary as what I received! She is obviously a very gifted artist but even more so she is SO willing to listen and incorporate your ideas. She made several mock ups for me to see and choose from and never charged extra....very unusual! And her flexibility was truly amazing! Last minute add on and changes ...... she never made me feel like it was an imposition at all! You will NOT be disappointed if you put your trust in Laura.....I will miss our communications because they were always very delightful....THANK YOU Laura!

What is your most memorable wedding?

I have a bride in California who has given me such wonderful projects to work on! The wedding will be held at a relative's house in Laguna Beach and I have the privilege of painting a watercolour of the venue and creating a distressed, retro travel poster Save the Date. I loved this as every aspect of the design was highly personal and created through regular conversations with my customer.

What about your business are you most proud of?

That I offer a service through which I can create pretty much anything my couples would like. It's the beauty of working with pen and paper- if I can draw it, it can be part of your day!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Create an event which truly represents you as a couple- find space for the small details which will make your guests smile as they notice how the day tells your story.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Some friends of mine used important years for their table names/numbers. When you arrived at the table, there were pictures of the bride and groom from that year. It was a great idea as some were childhood milestones, so there were photos of the couple which some of us would not have seen otherwise.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

After initial contact, we would discuss the types of stationery you need and whether you have a particular theme in mind. This is a great time to show me anything you have seen which appeals to you so far. I would also quiz you about your wedding venue, date and any colour schemes. For each piece of stationery, I would provide you with a photograph of a pencil sketched design draft, a price and timescale. If you are happy with these and choose to go ahead, I also send progress photos to keep you updated on how your design is taking shape.

What is the most important piece of stationery for a wedding and why?

For me, the invitation suite sets the scene for your guests. The excitement of opening an envelope full of the details of the day- maps, menus and itineraries- is the beginning of their preparations as well as yours as the bride and groom.

What is your best seller?

Handwritten place cards, with card/ink colours to suit your theme.

What is the most innovative delivery method you have come across?

Many of my designs can be sent to you as digital files to download and use as you wish- this gives couples much more flexibility, e.g, if you are on a short timescale, or prefer to send your invitations by e-mail to your guests. One couple had their table plan printed onto placemats for their dining room after the wedding! I loved that!

How do you add romance to any wedding stationery you do?

I think that handwritten and illustrated designs are intrinsically romantic in their appearance. Think of a love letter or a card from a close friend- these items hold so much more sentimental value because of the penmanship. Textures also play a big part in creating that romantic feel- how the stationery feels in your hands is so important to that first impression.
