What does a wedding celebrant actually do?
I design and deliver a wedding ceremony that is completely custom-written for you. Unlike a standard registry office script, I get to know you as a couple, write your unique love story into the fabric of the ceremony, help you with your vows, and coordinate with your venue so everything runs perfectly.
Are your ceremonies legally binding?
No, independent celebrant ceremonies are not legally binding in England and Wales. Most couples do the quick "legal paperwork" bit at their local registry office with two witnesses a few days before their wedding. This frees us up to hold your real, meaningful, and beautiful celebration wherever, whenever, and however you want on the big day!
How does the process work?
It’s relaxed and straightforward:
- Chemistry Call: A casual chat to make sure we're a perfect match.
- Deep-Dive Consultation: We meet up (in-person or online) to talk about your story, style, and ideas.
- Script Writing: I write a completely bespoke script from scratch. You get unlimited edits until it’s absolutely perfect.
- The Big Day: I arrive early, coordinate with your venue team, and deliver a flawless, warm ceremony.
Can we include personal vows?
Absolutely! In fact, I highly encourage it. Personal vows make a ceremony unforgettable. If you are struggling with what to say, don't worry—I provide complimentary vow-writing assistance and personal support to help you write exactly what's in your heart, stress-free.
Do you offer symbolic rituals?
Yes. Because we aren't restricted by council rules, we can weave in beautiful symbolic elements that mean something to you. Popular choices include Handfasting (tying the knot), Ring Warming (where your guests bless your rings before you exchange them), Unity Candle lighting, or Sand Ceremonies.
How long is the ceremony?
A typical bespoke ceremony lasts between 25 and 35 minutes. This is the sweet spot—long enough to feel incredibly meaningful, personal, and full of laughter, but short enough to keep your guests completely engaged from start to finish.
Do you travel?
Yes, I do! I am based in Leeds and fully cover West, North, South, and East Yorkshire. Travel within a 40-mile radius of Leeds is completely included in my base fee. If your venue is further afield, just let me know and we can easily arrange travel.
How far in advance should we book?
Ideally, 9 to 18 months in advance, especially if you are getting married during the peak summer wedding season (May to September). Because I strictly only ever book one wedding per day to give my couples total focus, my key weekend dates tend to fill up quickly.

That is completely normal, and I've got your back! My job is to be your calm anchor on the day. We can structure your vows so you only need to say a few words at a time or repeat after me, rather than reading a long speech. Because we build a genuine relationship before the wedding, it will feel like a trusted friend standing up there with you, keeping you grounded.
