It is one of my favourite things in the world to meet a new person with whom I just click, and to dive straight past the surface stuff into the intricate content of our souls. If that can be combined with Big Laughter, I am in heaven.

My fee is higher than some, and you may well find a celebrant who charges less — and some of them will be wonderful. But as a director of Agnostic Scotland, a trainer of new celebrants, and a feminist, I feel a strong responsibility to help shift the landscape toward fair pay. Creating a ceremony involves several days of thoughtful, creative work: writing, meetings, planning, delivery; and this fee is my only income for that time. It also supports the wider costs of running my practice and my membership with Agnostic Scotland. I believe celebrants should be paid a real living wage for their skill, time and emotional energy. This is caring, creative work most commonly done by women. I’m proud to be part of a movement working toward equality and parity across all genders and industries, and I’m confident in the value I offer. In fact, I’m often told I haven’t charged enough.

Linda Keys, Celebrant Full Description

Linda would love to get to know you both and to hear about your hopes and dreams for your ceremony - and then (ideally) to surpass them!

As a co-founder of Agnostic Scotland, Linda built an organisation founded on principles of inclusion, environmentalism, and integrity. Through Agnostic Scotland, she can conduct legal wedding ceremonies throughout Scotland. She mentors new celebrants and has literally (co)written the book on celebrancy for Agnostic Scotland trainees.

The best place to find reviews is on Linda's Google business page (just search for Linda Keys, Celebrant). The recurring themes there are that the couples Linda works with feel they know her well and feel in really safe hands. The ceremonies she offers are deeply personal and reflect the individuality of each couple in form and tone as well as content. She is described as warm, creative, welcoming, and a really good listener.

Linda is unusual in that she caps her wedding ceremonies (at around twenty each year) so that she can offer each couple a dedicated and heart-centred approach. As a result, she cares deeply about every couple she works with and truly finds the magic in every ceremony. Your wedding ceremony will be an extraordinary moment in your lives; Linda will join you in finding the awe and wonder of the moment!

"Linda Keys is an inclusive, creative celebrant and co-founder of Agnostic Scotland, offering legal wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships as well as funerals and other life ceremonies. She trains and mentors new celebrants."

"Linda's practice is driven by her values and fuelled by real connection with the couples, families, and communities she works with. Trans-inclusive, feminist, LGBTQ+-affirming, neuro-diverse and pro-disability affirming."

If you are looking for a Celebrant, look no further!! Linda is the one for you! From our very first zoom call all the way through to our wedding day Linda was just amazing. She was so supportive, listening to both of our wishes, she crafted the most meaningful and beautiful ceremony. It just blew me away on the day and I was so thankful my best man remembered tissues! Our friends and family are still saying that it was the best wedding they have been too. Linda made it so accessible and pitche

We cannot thank Linda enough for our perfect ceremony! She truly turned the part that we were unsure about (in terms of historic patriarchal practices!) into the best bit of our day. So many people have commented on how much they loved our ceremony and that’s because Linda made it work for us. It was so lovely working with Linda, she has a great energy and we were aligned from the get go. From our first zoom call we knew she was for us! She has a really calming energy and offers a lot of support

It was a joy to work with Linda Keys as the celebrant for our marriage in March 2026. Linda was generous, thoughtful, patient and funny. Janet and I were looking for a very informal occasion, something that was designed to suit our personalities, and to celebrate the family and friends in our lives. From the first conversations, Linda was relaxed and informal. She gave us space for us to feel nervous, to work through our questions, and gently carried us through the process of both organising th

We’re so glad that we found Linda to act as celebrant for our wedding! From our first Zoom call, her friendliness and open-heartedness immediately put us at our ease. She talked us through all the ins and outs of the process and made us feel really heard as we told her the story of our relationship so far. We were particularly struck by how easy she made it to share the goofy and silly details of our relationship in addition to the more romantic and serious ones. We loved completing the questio

Sweet Linda
Linda is an angel to this earth. Zac and I had multiple meetings with her over the duration of a year, she was so prepared. I had no idea how the wedding would flow, or if everything would go the way I hoped, and she made it so much better than I could have hoped. She’s as bright as the sun, and feels like a hug after long day. She truly, truly, made our wedding perfect. Her stories of us were beautifully spoken, her warmness held the room together. Linda, we couldn’t have done it without you, Zac and I are so blessed to have found you.

Amazing experience from the start
We found Linda online when looking for an inclusive and relaxed wedding ceremony and after one meeting knew this was the person we wanted to book. Linda is incredibly warm, nice and has a genuine desire to get to know you both individually and as a couple. Linda helped us to think about how we could make the ceremony inclusive and accessible for everyone attending and this is something she is clearly passionate about. We had several meetings talking about how we want the ceremony to go and she made some lovely suggestions. She sent us lots of helpful stuff about writing our own vows and including a handfasting ceremony. We met in person once at a lovely restaurant and had a really nice time. On the day of the wedding Linda spoke to both of us and we went through the last little bits. My nephew was our ring bearer and he was so nervous about it as he wanted to do a good job, but Linda explained everything to him and helped him to feel more confident. The ceremony was so full of love and fun which was exactly how we wanted it to be. We have received many comments from our guests about how personal and relaxed our ceremony was, which we credit to choosing Linda as our celebrant. All of our friends absolutely loved her and we've told them to have their weddings in Scotland and book her! After the ceremony she gave us a lovely box beautifully wrapped in a bow with all our ceremony things in it to keep as a nice memory, and explained what we had to do with the marriage schedule. We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Linda and cannot fault her in any way. Thank you!

above and beyond
We're so glad we asked Linda to be the celebrant for our wedding in the Scottish borders last November. From the start, Linda was warm and responsive, and we enjoyed spending time with her planning our ceremony. She took the time to get to know us and the script she prepared for us was beautiful. It perfectly captured our story and the mood we wanted to create during our ceremony. Like many, we had to postpone our original planned date in 2020, and we were so glad Linda was available for one of our rescheduled options. Linda was very reassuring during this period and helped make sure we were aware of any covid impacts/requirements on the ceremony. We were particularly touched when Linda asked a nearby friend to collect us an oathing stone from the place my husband proposed - this was above and beyond and was a really special touch! On the day everyone commented about how amazing the ceremony was and what a great job Linda did. We'd highly recommend Linda for anyone seeking a celebrant.

Our guests all commented
My wife Pauline & I are so glad we found Linda, she made the ceremony experience truly amazing. Linda was patient, she took time to understand how we wanted our special day to flow. She ensured our family and friends were key to the proceedings. Our guests all commented on how fabulous she was. Our day (after 3 cancellations due to COVID) finally went ahead in October 2021 and was perfect. Linda even presented us with boxed copies of our wedding vows as a keepsake. We cannot Thank her enough. Pauline & Richie Woods.

warm, emotive and humorous
My husband and I got married in our garden in July 2021, with Linda as our celebrant. She conducted the ceremony beautifully. It was warm, emotive and humorous- just exactly what you would hope for. Linda spent a lot of time before the wedding getting to know us, so it was personal and meaningful and completely centred around our story. We couldn’t recommend Linda highly enough. In fact, reluctant to lose contact with her, I joined her pregnancy yoga class (also exceptional!). Thank you, Linda, you fantastic human.

A day full of love, joy and commitment!
Aaaah Linda! We could not have found a better person to tell our story and lead us us through our wedding. From the first meeting Julie and I were so excited about the process and working with Linda. When we got our first piece of “homework” it was really refreshing to see that all kinds of individuals, couples and families would feel represented in the way everything was worded. Linda realises that each couple and each story is unique and takes the time to really personalise the experience. At first we weren’t sure if doing the legal bit separately would be extra hassle but it worked out so much better than we even imagined. The process of designing the ceremony with Linda and the energy she created while performing was so full of love, commitment, joy and truth. So many of our guests commented on what an amazing ceremony it had been and how it fit us as a couple so well. It felt like having a friend up there who knew us and cared about our love. Linda kept the excitement and importance of the occasion while still making sure we were relaxed and knew what was happening when. We can’t wait to have babies so Linda can do their naming ceremonies.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

It sounds trite, but they all are. Whether it’s the first one I did (for friends) with the confetti cannon, the couple (whom I just fell in love with) that live in my very own village, or the local “celebrity” whose wedding I never dreamed I’d get to do.... Every wedding finds a special place in my heart.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Warm, inclusive, heartfelt, relaxed, reassuring.

What about your business are you most proud of?

The feedback I get. To know that I have helped to set the tone for the whole day through my effort, time and energy. The whole wedding tends to start off with the ceremony, so absolutely nailing what the couple wants feels like the best gift I could give. All of the guests fall in love with the couple, are besotted by their love story, and just want to celebrate with them after they’ve been part of a wonderful ceremony.

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Take a breath before massive decisions and trust your instincts. Too many people get pulled in all directions by what other people expect or want. Yes, let's take care of everyone as best we can - but ultimately it is your wedding and so long as you treat everyone there with love and kindness, their preferences or expectations about what your day should look like don't matter.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Special/personalised readings or songs always get me, especially delivered by a child.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I send an information sheet and availability calendar so that we can get straight to an initial (no obligation) chat on Zoom. Once you have booked, we get set up with a contract and I create a wee password-protected ceremony portal for all our documents. Around about 6 months before the wedding, I send out my lovely questionnaires (which couples love because it gets them in gear to think about what they want from their ceremony and tells me some of the key moments of their relationship, as well as what they love most about one another). It’s a great warm-up for our first meeting. I make sure we have a really good first meeting where you can become relaxed with me, and then we use our follow-up meetings to chat through ceremony structure, readings, who's standing where, and other creative or logistical elements. I’m also available for a rehearsal or walk-through if you've been chosen that. I'm available to you fully on your wedding day - I never book more than one wedding in a day.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?

Too many to name - I attract the unusual!

How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?

I always make sure I communicate well with the couple and take as much load off them as I can. I keep in communication in the days leading up to the wedding. I think I help people remember what the wedding is all about; celebrating their love with the people that matter. Once you get that in perspective the rest of the stuff is fun rather than stressful - as it should be!

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Book your celebrant early. :) I cap the number of weddings I do each year so that I still have plenty of time with my family while my children are young enough to want me there at weekends! Once I've reached my full quota I start turning people away, even if I'm available on that date. This has benefits to the couples I work with - I can really focus on you and I have plenty of emotional energy to keep your wedding feeling special to everyone (including me!) I realise I'm really lucky to be in a position to do this, but it is definitely helping me to do the best job possible.

What is your favourite moment at a wedding?

I love the exchange of personal vows. Most couples think they will struggle with nerves but very few do; they just look so caught up in their love. Funnily enough it's often the part of the ceremony I'm least involved in as with most couples I will set you up and then step out of the way so you can focus just on one another. (All my input to the vows happens in advance - and I really do love helping people nail their vows).
