What is your most memorable wedding?
Sounds cheesy to say but they are all memorable. Some stand-out moments include having a pet Daschund as the ring-bearer, performing a soggy sand-ceremony in the middle of a woodland in torrential rain, a Norwegian-themed beach-front ceremony in Brighton, and an intimate wedding at a ruined castle.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Warm, authentic, relaxed, heartfelt, inclusive
What about your business are you most proud of?
I just love my job so much, and am always so proud of the lovely reviews that my couples give me. I do put my heart and soul into every ceremony, and I think that shows. I guess what I am most proud of is knowing that people have a great time working with me and that I am always a calming force whatever the situation!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Not to take too much notice of what the wedding magazines and blogs say. They are great for ideas, but ultimately no tow weddings should ever be the same, and the best advice I can give (in any situation) is to do what feels right for you.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
One of my couples gave all their guests packets of bee-friendly seeds so they could go home and plant some flowers and help the bees. So much more imaginative then a bag of sugared almonds...and something that benefits us all too.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Around 4-6 months before their wedding day, I would get together with my couple for their planning meeting - usually over tea and cake wherever possible! I will usually have shared lots of resources with them before our meeting so this is a chance for us to gather ideas and for me to begin to really get to know them, and their wishes for their special day. I then go away and begin writing a first draft of the ceremony and then share it for comment. There's no limit to the number of changes I'll make from that point onwards, to ensure it is exactly as they want it to be. In the week leading up to the ceremony, we usually get together at the venue to walk and talk everything through. This is key to making sure everyone is happy and relaxed on the day, and often-time parents, best men/women etc will come along to that session as well. The more the merrier! I also work with a lot of couples from overseas, who are coming to the UK for their wedding ceremony, so in that instance we have to forego the tea and cake and do everything via Skype, but this is still a lot of fun, and we manage very well even if we aren't physically in the same space until the Big Day.
What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?
I've been asked to create a surprise wedding ceremonies where the guests thought they were attending a 30th birthday party and not a wedding. I've also planned a Vow Renewal ceremony for a Silver Wedding anniversary celebration, which was organised in secret by the husband. I do love a good surprise!!
How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?
One of the best pieces of advice is not to leave everything to the last minute. You don't want to reach your wedding day and feel frazzled so try and pace yourself and get everything done ahead of time, so that you can ease yourself into those final weeks without feeling anxious and tired. A list always helps too - I love a list! Oh, and find a brilliant celebrant who can make sure that the ceremony is the best that it can be...of course!
What do you love most about your job?
Try not to over complicate things. I am a firm believer in the old adage 'less is more' and I often think the simplest of ideas can be the most effective. At the end of the day a wedding ceremony is a moment to celebrate your love with all the people that matter most to you in the world. The ceremony is at the heart of this, so if you get the ceremony right it sets the tone for the whole of the rest of the day.
What is your favourite moment at a wedding?
Again, there are too many to be able to give a single answer really., but one of my very favourite moment at any wedding is when a couple have written personal vows for one another. Especially if they are hearing these for the first time. I always offer to help my couples do this, as I think it's such a magical moment.
