Full Description
Hi, we are Rod and Julie and we absolutely love weddings. So much so that a little over 10 years ago we decided that we would shoot nothing else and now cover around 40-50 weddings a year around the UK and Europe! Why did we decide to specialise? We believe that today's wedding couple have spent so much time, effort, money and love on their big day that they deserve our full attention! As a husband and wife team we work tirelessly and throughout the night to ensure that we deliver the best quality and the perfect story of our couples big day. As far as the techie stuff is concerned...we update our Nikon professional gear annually (it's our Xmas present to each other...sad eh!), we are fully insured, we have a reliable car and passports and we live and breathe weddings...did I mention that we love weddings!

Congratulations on getting engaged! Choosing your photographer will be one of the most difficult choices that you will have to make, after all, your photographs need to be as perfect as your day and tell the whole story. Let's meet up and get to know each other over a drink and take a look at some of our lovely clients weddings and some of our albums.

Awesome couple GREAT PHOTOS!
Rod & Julie Definitely have the ZEST! From the moment we met them we got on from the start. Their ideas have been in line with that we envisioned for our big day ... they listened to what our story and style is and they add ideas that we didn’t even think off which worked brilliantly! They both made us feel at ease especially for the groom who doesn’t like taking pictures - Having had the Pre-wedding photos really took the edge off and we both got emotional when we saw all our pictures.... THANK YOU Rod and Julie.. you both are AMAZING and we are so glad we got to book with you! —- To the upcoming Brides and Grooms if you don’t have a photographer booked yet.... Defo book them! Best from newly weds Lígia & Fábio

Fun, crazy, professional
Bloody loved these two capturing our big day - We couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it. The photos back are amazing, the banter and cheekiness was brilliant, the attention to detail was flawless. We’re so glad we chose Rod and Julie, they managed to get us two looking good in photos that weren’t just selfies! Thank you both so much again - can’t wait to rock the frock with you at some point!!

Brilliant photographers :)
Rod and Julie were fantastic from start to finish. Before our wedding, they sat down with us and gave us same great tips for the big day which were really helpful. On the day itself, they were both brilliant. They are incredibly friendly and you can tell how experienced they are. We are really pleased how the photos look- they got a great variety of shots and captured the day perfectly. Thanks to both of them and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else :)

Best day ever!
Well, what can we say, our experience with Rod and Julie back in September was second to none. From morning to Evening they were very professional and organised. From helping the Bride and Groom in the morning to making sure everyone was where they needed to be on the day. As well as being fantastic photographers, they both helped make the day run as smoothly as possible. We were blown away with the photos and attention to detail. Would 100% recommend to future couples!

Absolute perfection - on the day and in the photos!
Rod and Julie photographed our big day in August 2019 at Upwaltham Barns in Sussex. It was a perfect day, and Rod and Julie really helped with that. Having them there on the day was actually a huge help to both of us, and their knowledge and experience helped the day go off without a hitch. The photos are absolutely stunning - we've looked at them for hours and can't stop ourselves!Amazing value for money, and thoroughly nice people to boot - would recommend to anyone and everyone, you won't regret it!

Amazing photos and felt at ease
I hate having my photo taken and the idea of posing repeatedly for photos on our wedding day filled me with dread... Rod & Julie made myself and Sophie feel completely at ease and handled everything; even dealing with the driver getting lost on the way to the service. I could not recommend them highly enough

What is your most memorable wedding?

A big African wedding with 190 super smiley, happy guests all singing, playing instruments and dancing throughout the day...even during the service. Oh, and the most romantic First Kiss we have ever witnessed!!!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

unobtrusive, natural, fun, documentary, noflash

What about your business are you most proud of?

Most of our work comes from recommendation and from meeting couples face to face. Our booking forms ask why the couples choose us and it's always down to our enthusiasm...we are VERY enthusiastic when it comes to weddings!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Your day will fly by, try and create lots of personal moments that you will remember - a perfect First Kiss for example, should be more than just a kiss and should be something to remember.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Hand made arrows shot with names engraved and shot into logs that contained moss that was carefully cultivated at home. They were the place settings!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Face to face meet up to get to know you and to show you our work. Lots of questions please, you've never done this before! After taking a small deposit (£150) and filling out a form we then write to confirm and book an Engagement or Save the Date shoot if you want one. A pre wedding meeting happens about a month before the wedding during which we cover all aspects of your day and give you loads of tips to help you enjoy and remember it. We have a quick 'posing' session - we don't pose you on the day but do give you a few tips based on your body shapes and natural stances that you can practice for the weeks leading up to the day. On the day itself, Julie visits the girls and rod works with the boys (generally they go out and show the suits off lol). Nowadays a lot of Brides ask Julie to come in the car During to capture those wonderful tearful moments with Dad. During the ceremony, Rod generally works at the front trying to keep out of sight and capturing all of those wonderful close ups whilst Julie captures the overall feel of the service - we also look for guest reactions. Afterwards we cover confetti and Friends and Family shots (aka the dreaded formals although we make them as fun and fast as possible). We try and keep these shots to 10 minute bursts, allowing you to have a drink and a mingle in between - we find that it breaks it up nicely. We shoot loads of candids (guests looking at your favours, families hugging, kids playing, you two having a special moment, or two, or three!) and we obviously take you out as much as you want to use the venue and get some stunning and intimate portraits to treasure. After cutting the cake we shoot the First Dance and then stay on for a couple of hours to mingle with the guests and capture you relaxing with them as the day winds down. Back to the office to back up the cameras and pop a sneaky peek up online for you. We then sleep - it's probably been a 14 hour day so we are pooped! Afterwards we shortlist your shots down to about 1200 and put them up on a password protected gallery for you to share. This process can take a while as we are very busy, we like to think that the shots are worth the wait though! Shots for albums and wall art are then chosen by you, designed by us and hand delivered to your home where possible. We like to catch up with our couples and usually find that beautiful friendships ensue lol Oh, we do Rock Te frock too so if you want to get all dolled up again then drag the dress out and let's see what we can create!!

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

A shot of the Bridal party having fun together - they are probably your bestest friends and you will want to remember them looking their silliest and finest!

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

We were asked to break into an abandoned Railway Depot in Munich, Germany. When in we took the Bridal party in along with their vintage car for a carzy 1 hour session before sneaking off to the reception! It was so much fun and the shots are amazing!!!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Wellies, brollies, heel stoppers and an open mind! Actually some of our favourite weddings have been pouring and the shot shave been great.

Describe how you got into photography.

Rod was trained by his Dad in the 80's (he was a famous society photographer shooting the Lords and Ladies of the Land for Hello magazine and similar). Rod went pro in the 90's. Julie was a bridal Dress consultant when they met in 2002 (pretty useful experience when it comes to getting a nervous Bride into a big dress). After getting married in 2005 she retrained as a photographer and they started Zest together.
