What is your most memorable wedding?
They are all memorable for something- I have some many stories.
But I would say weddings involving travel stand out as it's so much more than just being about the day- it's like a 3 day mission. In September 2022 I travelled pretty much to Lands End to shoot a wedding and it absolutely pelted it down with rain all day- but we got some great shots and it was a great occasion.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Relaxed fun artistic natural friendly
What about your business are you most proud of?
Building a reputation. A lot of me winning work is based on customers and clients being satisfied with the results and dealing with me as an individual.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't over plan or over think the day. Trust in your suppliers- you're in safe hands
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Saw a great video once during speeches- a Bride & Groom were both identical twins and their opposing identical siblings had filmed and recreated a "How they met" video unbeknownst to them.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Very informal. For me it's about establishing a familiarity. I always make sure that come the day to the couple I am 'Michael'- not just 'The photographer'.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I always like to include a walking away shot, for me it's very symbolic and it very often helps complete a wedding set.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
I did like that a couple once wanted to feature a shot of themselves holding the equivalent photos of their parents.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
A solid plan B from my perspective. But I always discuss the what ifs with the couple... its always important especially in the UK to not pin everything on the hope of good weather. Ultimately though the couple remaining comfortable throughout the day is of paramount importance to me, if plan Bs have been exhausted and we must venture outside for 'a shot' we do it as late as possible..... after all you can't take the photo the next day.
Describe how you got into photography.
When growing up and now as a grown-up (sort of!) photographs have always played a big part- they've been the recording of a moment in time never to be repeated.
When I became a professional photographer over 10 years ago this was what was motivating every shot I took.... and it's the same still today.
I took up photography a long time ago and for many years would be the geeky enthusiast pointing a camera at everyone. My hobby evolved and eventually became something I was lucky enough to call 'My job'- here I am many years later.
