What is your most memorable wedding?
All my weddings are memorable for different reasons but I just love photographing people in love. I'm an old romantic so to be able to capture peoples love on camera is something really special for me.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Documentary, Cinematic, Emotional, Clean and Colourful
What about your business are you most proud of?
I'm proud that 95% of our business comes through recommendations for previous bride and grooms. You can't have a better review than that.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Book your venue and photographer first to avoid disappointment. I turn away over 30 enquiries a year due to dates already being booked so get in there quick.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
The most personal and emotional was when the brides father (who had passed) had wrote his speech and had it read out on the day by the brides brother. You can't get more personal than that. I just about managed to take the pictures through my own teary eyes.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Most initial enquiries come through the website. I then check I have the date available and arrange to meet the couple at my home studio to chat with them further about their requirements and also show them sample albums and the products and services that make up my wedding packages. Once they decide to book they fill in a booking form, sign a contract and pay a deposit to hold their date. We then speak nearer the wedding day to arrange all the finer details. After the wedding (with a month) they have a full viewing at the studio and are presented with their photos and draft album. They take these away and make any changes they wish before we order the final product. I love seeing couples facing when they watch their wedding slideshow, the viewing process if one of my many favourite parts of being a wedding photographer.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Tough one as every bride and groom is different and different people/events are important to them. One of the most special for me though is the brides father seeing her for the first time. I know that's one I would like when I see my little girl get married.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
Some of the groomsmen had superhero t-shirts under their wedding shirts at one wedding. I turned my back for a moment an when I turned back they were standing there with them half open. Always expect the unexpected at weddings.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
You will see from my website some of the beautiful images that can be created using rain. I once had a bride that said she wished it had rained on her wedding day after seeing the pictures I created in the rain at another wedding.
Describe how you got into photography.
I got into photography organically through travelling the world for two years with my wife some 10 years ago. I bought my first SLR and made it my mission to document the places we travelled and do them some justice. When we came back from our travels a friend had seen the photos and asked me to photograph her wedding. Thankfully it was 6 months away so I immersed myself totally in the world of photography/wedding photography, shot the wedding and from showing that one wedding on social media I booked 17 for the following year. The year after that I went full time and have never looked back.
