What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
It's your wedding - it celebrate your dreams, your vision, and your romance. So stick to what will you want as a couple, not what will please other people.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Pass the parcel for each table at the wedding breakfast.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
If you are thinking about when, where, how & enjoying the fun that comes with planning your wedding, then you’ll want to make sure all the aspects of your day are captured in full. When the last song is sung, your memories are all that remain of the day. Your love goes on and burns brighter, and I hope that with great photos you cherish, so do your memories and stories.
If you’re thinking of me as your wedding photographer, then please get in touch as soon as possible to enquire about my availability. I only shoot a small number of weddings each year so please always ask if I’m free - however far away or however near your chosen date may be. I can also send over my wedding photography brochure to you for more details on packages, investment, what’s involved and more details for you. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. I’d also love to hear a little about yourselves, and your plans. If I’m available for your date, we can also arrange to meet in person or over Skype/Facetime to get to know each other a bit better. I’ll then send over my booking form (which is required along with a deposit) to secure your wedding date in my diary.
I’ll arrive at the location where you’re getting married about an hour and a half before the ceremony to capture the fun of the bridal party getting ready. I can also cover the groomsmen getting ready if you’d like to split the time and the two locations allow. I then head to the ceremony venue to take some photos of guests arriving and of the decor/venue itself ahead of the bridal party arriving for the ceremony.
During the ceremony, my camera uses the latest mirrorless technology and is unobtrusive with silent or very quiet shutter clicks, meaning I’ll blend into the background and you won’t even know I’m there. I’ll move around the venue to capture as many angles as possible. I do suggest to my couples that guests are asked to refrain from using their own phones or cameras to take photos during the ceremony. Phones and camera rarely look good in the photos you’ve invested in during the ceremony and your galleries are available to all your guests to download after you’ve approved them so no-one is missing out. It’s much better for your guests to be present and engaged during your ceremony. Confetti shots and larger group photos usually follow to make sure as many guests as possible are not missed.
Group photos can be catered to the size of the wedding and the time available in the day. I try to ensure they are done as quickly as possible so that you have more time to celebrate and spend with your guests. With the help of the wedding party, each group is gathered with guidance from myself for a variety of fun and traditional styles to ensure that all guests have a memory they will cherish.
If you like my style, and would like me to be a part of your day, then I request that you allow time in your wedding schedule for photos of the two of you together at various points through the day. This is a great time to spend just the two of you celebrating and taking in everything in the whirlwind of the day. It also means that you’ll get the pictures you’ll have on your wall for years to come and that capture the spirit and fun of you as a couple.
I’ll be steered by the bride and groom as to how adventurous or creative you’d like to be with the photos but I do like to ensure you have a range of images showcasing the two of you. As the light changes throughout the day, I’ll often grab you for 5 minutes here and there to make sure we get those magical images with the right light in the right setting. I use natural light where possible but have a range of lighting equipment to help when the weather isn’t playing nice.
Whatever form your wedding takes, I usually keep snapping away naturally as guests chat and moments happen. I will cover your speeches and/or any special aspects you have as part of your day. I take a break when you and your guests sit down to eat as no-one likes a mid-mouth/eating piccy! I do request a small something to eat at the same time so I can keep my energy up and make sure the end of the wedding is as well covered as the beginning.
I love all of the different forms of entertainment that couples organise for parties and dancing. By this point, I’ve usually integrated myself well with the guests and am one of the clan meaning I can get some really natural emotions from your guests. I’ll cover your wedding until around half an hour after the first dance but can be flexible to make sure no fun is missed out on.
Your full wedding online gallery will be emailed to you within 6 weeks of your wedding date for you to sit down and enjoy together once normal life has resumed. You can pick your favourites in the gallery, share the link with your friends and family and download images. If you’d like to discuss having a photo album put together of the story of your day then this is all possible and I can guide you through this process. You’ll also receive a USB stick of all of your images in the post once your gallery has gone live.
I’ll also put together a wedding highlights video slideshow telling the story of the day which is a great way of having a snapshot of the best photos to share with your loved ones.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Golden hour with the sun behind them.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
Every photo I take is different from the last wedding. I see each wedding in its own light as it's own story and as an opportunity to really get creative and try new things at each wedding which will engage each couple differently.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embrace it, it can create beautiful photos which are really one of a kind. Prepare for the worst, have a few options, and you won't be disappointed.
Describe how you got into photography.
At first, there was me, myself, and my camera. I was a 'creative' tired of climbing the corporate ladder in London, with a natural talent for taking a great snap & a passion for love stories. Hoping to make a mark on the world in a way more meaningful than making rich people richer, I turned to photography to nourish my soul - capturing raw emotion, beautiful spirits, and all the fun times around me.
With their trust placed in me, my camera and I bonded with some beautiful faces at their kickass weddings. I made some friendships with awesome like-minded couples just about to take a leap of faith into married life, who also had faith enough in me to invite me to be a part of their day. I also loved that I'd made people very happy with the results of my storytelling through the lens.
From there, one wedding became a few, then many more and it became a lifestyle choice to build a life according to my own rules, surrounded by love, happiness and dreams on a daily basis. It opened up a new idea of ‘success’ for me and I chose to turn my life into something more rewarding, at a slower pace, living my dream. I’ve chosen the path less travelled and dare to be different in both my personal life and my professional work. I hope I’m anything and everything except ordinary!
In 2018, my journey continued with another twist in the path, as I followed my heart yet again and moved from the Big Smoke to Yorkshire with my fiancé Rob (who's now my husband!). You can see us on the other side of the camera here looking as happy as Larry, in all our finery and totes in love on our wedding day. As a couple of 30-somethings, hand in hand we are finding our feet again in unchartered lands. We're busy building a life for our future - whatever it may hold.
