Hello, I'm Jonathan.

My own wedding photographs were a genuine disappointment. A photographer who seemed barely interested, and a set of pictures I'll never treasure. It's the one thing from our day I'd change, and I can't — which is exactly why I do this now. I decided no couple should have to settle for that, and set out to become the photographer I wish we'd had.

How I work

I photograph weddings the way they actually happen. No stiff line-ups, no endless shot lists, no barking instructions at your guests. I hang back, watch how your day naturally unfolds, and photograph the real moments as they come — the quiet look between you before the ceremony, your dad welling up during the speeches, your friends genuinely laughing rather than posing for a camera.

The only structured part of the day is a short window for family groups, from a list we'll agree together beforehand, and around twenty unhurried minutes with just the two of you, usually near sunset when the light is at its best. Beyond that, you're free to simply enjoy your wedding. Most couples tell me they'd forgotten I was there by the second hour, which is exactly how it should be.

My background

I studied photography at degree level, then spent several years teaching art — which taught me as much about putting nervous people at ease as it did about light and composition. It turns out that's the part that matters most on a wedding day. Years photographing live music in small, badly-lit venues added the rest: working quickly, quietly, and without ever getting in anyone's way.

Since 2018 I've photographed over 180 weddings. I'm a Qualified Member of the SWPP (the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers), fully insured, and I shoot with two of everything — cameras, lenses and flashes — plus dual memory cards in every camera, so a single equipment failure could never put your photographs at risk.

Engagement & pre-wedding shoots

If the idea of being photographed makes you slightly uneasy, you're in very good company — and a pre-wedding shoot is the best cure I know. It's a relaxed hour or two somewhere that means something to you, with no pressure and no audience. You get comfortable in front of the camera, we get to know each other properly, and by your wedding day it all feels familiar rather than daunting. You'll also come away with a lovely set of photographs of just the two of you, long before the day itself.

Destination weddings

I love to travel, and I'd be delighted to photograph your wedding wherever it's happening. I'm based in South Wales and regularly cover Newport, Cardiff, Cwmbran and Swansea, along the M4 corridor into Bristol, Bath and Gloucester, and anywhere else in the UK. For weddings further afield, do get in touch — travel is usually far more straightforward and affordable than couples expect, and I'll always be upfront about costs.

A preview gallery arrives within 72 hours, so you don't have to wait weeks to relive your day. Your full edited gallery follows within eight weeks, delivered as a private online gallery with full-resolution downloads and a personal print licence, so you can print, share and enjoy your photographs however you like.

I edit for longevity rather than trends. Natural colour, honest skin tones, and no heavy filters that will look dated in five years. I'd far rather give you 400 photographs you'll genuinely treasure than 1,200 you'll never open.
