Mark Sisley Photography Full Description
My style is artistic, emotional and natural, and I love making your images as colourful and vibrant as possible. I’m always seeking out creative lighting options, and I love capturing those timeless moments in high contrast black and white. Movement also plays a big part in my portfolio - I want my work to jump from the page with life. I believe in the power of story-telling and the importance of documenting your wedding day as naturally as possible. I will provide you with a collection of photographs that relive your story authentically, captured in an unobtrusive manner while being beautifully crafted. At each wedding I work with available natural light, allowing me to faithfully capture the atmosphere of the day in beautiful, flattering photographs. I also use methods and techniques that are quite unique in my industry; I’m particularly known for my dramatic night time imagery. I use my lighting methods to illuminate your venue and the landscape for a grand finale twilight image in your album.

Fantastic Photographer
As a Covid bride this year you can imagine the stress and anxiety of cancelled weddings, venue changes and never ending changes to the guest numbers! Despite all this Mark was simply fantastic. He went the extra mile to make sure he was available for all the changed dates at very little notice. He quite frankly made the day. Without his experience and expertise we would never have got the amazing photos we did, to a venue none of us had ever been to before, and all with only a couple of weeks notice. He got every shot we could have asked for and more. His professionalism and dedication to making our memories of the day so perfect, was impressive and everyone who attended could not comment more highly on Mark. Fantastic photographer, highly professional and would 100% recommend.

Highly Professional - Positive Enthusiasm
It is almost impossible to praise this very charming photographer too highly. His professionalism, the quality of his photos and the sheer positive enthusiasm that he has for his work. His photos were inventive, sensitive, beautifully constructed and highly professional. Never once was he an intrusion and the final gallery of photos that he presented were more than one could possible have hoped for. We really cannot thank him enough for his work or recommend him too highly

Fantastic Pictures in Stormy Conditions
We cannot speak highly enough of Mark and the fantastic work he does. From our first meeting, through to ordering our final images he was helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. Mark was easy to reach in the run up to our big day and was always on hand to give his expert advice on anything that we were unsure about. The wedding day itself could not have run any more smoothly. Even with the adverse weather conditions, Mark was able to capture every aspect of the day beautifully, documenting all of the special little moments, making the most of the fantastic scenery at our venue (The Dairy, Waddesdon) and offering some fantastic, off-the-cuff, alternative shots throughout.

Passion & Amazing Detail
Mark recently took the photos for our wedding at the end of November and we can’t recommend him highly enough. From the initial meeting and discussion over our venue, his passion for photography really came through and it was an absolute pleasure listening and discussing with him the style and type of photos he would take. On the day itself, Mark directed us and the guests and ensured we got the pictures we hoped for. The final pictures are absolutely stunning and he has not only managed to capture the day in amazing detail, but managed to bring out the happiness and enjoyment from the day. When we got a chance to sit and review the hundreds of pictures Mark had taken on the day we couldn’t have been happier we choose to work with him.

Beautiful Night Shots
A huge thank you to Mark for your superb photography at our wedding in August. From our experience of liaising with Mark over the last year, we not only knew that we would have beautiful photographic memories of our wedding, but also that Mark's professionalism and organisational skills would contribute to the smooth running of the day. The relaxed pre-wedding consultation gave us an opportunity to discuss all our options, with many photographs and album styles to look through and guide our discussions. On the day, Mark recalled these details, organising guests for group shots and spotting opportunities to capture some of the types of images we had discussed. Mark also worked beyond his booked hours to take some beautiful night shots and photograph our late evening entertainers - much appreciated. Despite thinking we are a rather camera-shy couple, the photo shoots are actually one of our fondest memories of the day! We were made to feel very comfortable and had fun seeking out imaginative backdrops and poses throughout the venue (including a touch of 'rock climbing' in the venue's secret garden!) Our guests continue to comment on how professional and amiable Mark was. It was a real pleasure to have you share the day with us - thanks again. Hannah and Rob (The Dairy, Waddesdon)

Passionate Photographer - Amazing Pictures
We spent a long time researching the perfect photographer to capture the pictures at our Cliveden House wedding. Then we came across Mark Sisley's website. The photos looked amazing, and his website was very professional. We arranged for a meeting at his studio to view his portfolio and to discuss our big day. His photographs were fantastic, plus he has a lovely personality, my now husband and I warmed to him immediately. He has taken the most amazing photos capturing every moment and more, and his work was to very high standard. All our guests thought he was fabulous, and they loved how passionate he was about his work. If you want a top photographer for any occasion we highly recommend Mark Sisley. We couldn't of found a better person for the job! Thank You Mark. Melina & Nick

5 Stars - 10/10 - Wonderful
5 stars, 10 out of 10, 100% - use whichever measure you wish our experience was that Mark is a wonderful photographer. He is warm and friendly and all of our guests commented on how "good" and "nice he was". His attention to detail in our "posed" shots has made for some amazing pictures (who knew we could look so good!?). He also managed to capture some great shots of our venue and guests in a very relaxed and unobtrusive way. As time passes and our memory of the day fades, Mark has provided us with a fantastic set of photographs to remind us and keep the memories fresh. Richard & Iwa - Taplow House Hotel

The Perfect Photographer
We would first like to say a big thank you for helping to make our wedding day an occasion we will never forget. We first met you at a wedding fayre and immediately felt you were the photographer for us, and boy were we right. Despite having a very relaxed, friendly and laid back personality you immediately took control of the 100-strong wedding party in a very professional manner. At both the church and the wedding venue, Taplow House, you selected the most perfect scenes and backdrops to create images of the day that are unforgettable. The clarity, sharpness and light effects in the photographs are the best we've ever seen and we remember waiting for clouds to pass over in your quest for the perfect picture. As at most weddings there were children, and sometimes children do not easily pose for the photographer but with your friendly disposition, they were soon smiling and eating our of your hand. We particularly liked the casual photographs you took during the evening when people were not posing but just acting naturally. All we can say is that you did a great job for us and we couldn't be more grateful. Dan & Natasha

The Best Decision
The venue was booked, wedding dress sorted and now the other bits. I asked Georgie what I could do and she said we need a photographer. I was impressed with the way you presented yourself, I found you through Google. I did not know at the time how much of an impact this decision could have, the importance of capturing the perfect day professionally was distorted by the thought that I needed to find someone who could take some pictures. Thankfully I chose the best, but I could be laying low now if my initial instincts had been misguided rather than basking in the glory. To be honest I feel a bit smug that I found you and the resulting ‘perfect memories’. Couples should not think twice about whether to commission you to capture their special occasion, you are up there with the top value decisions that I have made in my life. The pride I had walking Georgie down the aisle to meet Ricardo is a once in a lifetime privilege and having a friendly yet totally professional person in charge of capturing the moment was very special. I would highly recommend you to anyone considering who to trust in making this ‘bigger than you think’ decision having experienced your results. Thank you so much for making the perfect day last with a lifetime of wonderful reminders.

Recommended By Our Venue
For us, a photographer for our wedding was a must, however we both hate having our photo taken. We were both apprehensive about our initial meeting with you to discuss our needs, but within seconds of meeting starting you had put us at ease. You explained your approach to photography and it was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere without too much formality, but still to have our memories captured. We found out about you through our venue, Hampden House, and they were delighted that we hired you. Having a photographer that knows the venue as well as yourself allowed us to have truly memorable photos which encompassed the historical architecture and the striking grounds. You knew exactly what locations within the venue worked best and made use of the spring / early summer blooms to our advantage. Many of our guests commented how efficient, polite and professional you were and how you kept the whole day flowing to work with the schedule that was needed for the day to run smoothly. As promised, access to our photographs arrived whilst we were on honeymoon. They were beautiful, and as two people who hate having their photo taken, there are hundreds of photos that we both love.

FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

This would be like choosing my favourite child! Each & every wedding is unique, and I love them all, whether it’s in a village hall or a stately home!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Colourful, informal, very organised and quick, dramatic night-time images

What about your business are you most proud of?

Having so many four and five star Buckinghamshire venues recommending me is the ultimate compliment. The wedding coordinators know that I get consistently great feedback on the wedding day from both the couple and the guests. They know I'm quick with any requested group pictures, and that when there are inevitable hitches in the plan for the day I'm flexible, adaptable and cheerful. I'm recommended by: Cliveden House Hotel, Waddesdon Manor, The Five Arrows Hotel, The Dairy Waddesdon, Hartwell House Hotel, Missenden Abbey, Taplow House Hotel, Hampden House, Chartridge Lodge Hotel and Dorton House.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Be brave, in your choice of colour scheme! Some of the most beautiful, dramatic weddings I've attended have included bold, vibrant colours in the flowers, bridesmaids outfits and decorations. Especially on a dark or overcast day when your guests may choose more sombre colours, your bridal party will stand out with a vivid splash of colour. One of the most dramatic weddings I've attended recently chose a black and white theme, with accents of vibrant yellow sunflowers. It was clean and modern, and the sunflowers gave just the right pop of colour. Another couple chose vivid pink and brilliant orange as their colour scheme. Although it rained on the day, the photographs are bright and colourful.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I'll never forget the school children who came to congratulate their music teacher after her church service; 40 children sang thier hearts out in an aisle as she exited the church with her new husband. I've never seen so many tears of happiness, not to mention the big hugs all around.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Most couples make their initial contact via phone or email. I usually invite them to my Amersham premises for an informal chat. This is an ideal opportunity for you to view my portfolio and for us to get to know each other. After this meeting I encourage you not to make a quick decision; instead I guarantee your wedding date in my diary for the next 7 days. If you decide to proceed, I ask you to complete my booking form and pay a securing deposit (usually about 30% of the total package.) Once I've received that, I'll send you a confirmation letter by return. For weddings of six hours attendance or more, I like to meet with you a few weeks before the wedding at your venue to run through timings, types of photographs, any family considerations etc. It helps for us to walk around the various backdrops together to discuss our ideas. For weddings less than six hours' attendance, I'll arrange a phone chat with you instead. Approx 2-3 weeks after the wedding, a mini-gallery of about 50 images will be ready. Once you've approved these and paid the remaining balance, the remaining images will go live in an online preview gallery. All of these images have been processed to a very good standard. You'll select your absolute favourite, to be optimised to a fine art standard. Please allow an additional two weeks for these to be prepared, at which point I will send you the USB of your wedding. If you would like an album, I'll need to know your favourite images to include in the designs. My graphic designer will produce the artworks for your approval. Once we have the go-ahead, your album will be ready for collection within 4-6 weeks.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

The most popular image I capture is at dusk. I'm known for my unique lighting techniques, which capture the details of the building and landscape whilst you are positioned in the foreground. These images create a fabulous grand finale to your wedding album. To see more about the beauty and dramatic results of these images, do take a look at the blog posting on my website showing the Before and After results with this lighting.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

The most original and the most difficult photo I've ever been asked for was when I was asked to capture an owl flying the wedding rings down the aisle. This happened in the blink of an eye with zero chance of a second take! I'm pleased to report the couple were thrilled with the images I captured for them.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

You never plan for it to be raining on your wedding day, but it's good to have a Plan B. Many of my weddings are during the winter months, and I'm often working in difficult lighting conditions. If your ceremony is taking place in a church, I like to use the church interior for a fantastic, dramatic backdrop for group pictures. (Not to mention warm and dry!) Older buildings can sometimes appear quite dark; my unique lighting methods keep both the foreground and background crystal clear. The architectural features of your venue also make great rainy day options: archways and doorways are beatiful for silhouettes, and even in the simplest of venues window light portraits are beautifully flattering. At my studio I keep several display albums from weddings captured on rainy days, and most people viewing them can hardly believe how awful the conditions were! No matter what the weather outside, you'll still have beautiful, bright colourful images.

Describe how you got into photography.

I got the bug for photography on a trip to Africa as a 14yr language exchange student - with so many mesmerising landscapes I just couldn’t put the camera down! I studied photography for the next four years before going on to become an assistant for the next four years in London. I worked for some of the capital’s leading advertising photographers, and this training proved invaluable to me. I’ll never forget working on many of the big budget billboard campaigns, then being able to see these huge posters as I commuted into London each day.
