What is your most memorable wedding?
There are so many, from a very busy African wedding full of dancing and singing, the many moments the father of the bride is in tears and the first First Dance after lockdown. Every wedding has its own unique and wonderful moments. I have covered many types of weddings including African, Hindu, Muslim and Asian. I didn't tick the speciality box but I do know how to work with these different styles.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Classic, Creative, reportage, ubiquitous, timeless
What about your business are you most proud of?
The ability to look after my clients. I deal with every aspect of the business myself and have had clients ask for duplicates years after the wedding and as I keep them backed up, I can do that.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Find suppliers you like the style of then find one in your budget. Ask about insurances and backup protocols. Also, book early.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I think its beautiful when you can see the personality of the bride and groom in the wedding decor and set up. Doing it all their own way.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
It all starts with the couple asking if the date is free and providing the location. I provide a quote and if happy we arrange to meet to discuss their day, and view wedding albums. I explain how I work and answer any questions the couple has. I confirm the quote and leave it with the couple. I don't have any sales tactics or try and push sales. Id rather couples book if they want to and are happy. I have a basic contract t&c's to sign and once a deposit is paid, that date is secure. We chat to discuss any updates during the time leading up to the wedding. Final balance usually due 4 weeks before the wedding.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I think photos with those closest to you are vital, but you need a wow image of the 2 of you. Usually after the wedding breakfast when the light is better or drops and we get the studio flash out, maybe even some smoke.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
It was once the Dinosaur chasing before it was really popular, Darth Vader force choke of the husband and a walking dead style shot of the groom's party who all had super hero t-shirts under their army uniform.. So yeah, a few crazy ones.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
An umbrella and a smile. The wedding will still be awesome. The day is what you make it. And we can use rain for some great images.
Describe how you got into photography.
I went to New York in 1998 and took a basic film camera. Took lots of rolls of film and most were terrible. So I started to learn how to do it better. Fast forward to 2008 when I bought my first DLSR and did some online courses. In at the deep end, I had to master show photography in dark venues, getting a good colour balance and avoiding blurry images. It's been a great journey.
