Gavin Jacob Power | Photographer Full Description
Colourful, bold and authentic wedding photography - rip up the rule book and have and awesome time! Searching for a wedding photographer is like finding the infamous Wally! Nice to meet you, I'm Wally! Do I love weddings? Yes! However I don't care for random weird traditions - hanging a wedding dress like a ghost possessed it, cutting a cake that, lets face it, no one ever eats, staring at the camera in that single moment - like you're models in a stationary advert for Parker pens! Weird right?! So I care about connection and authenticity, not faking or creating but ultimately capturing memories of reality. That first hug after a year apart, the sibling rivalries, sleeping grandads and most of all your love story. Want fun & reality? Message Wally! X

Gavin was so helpful...
Gavin was so helpful, he spent an entire day with us getting to know us and shooting the pre wedding pictures. He was so professional and friendly at the same time, we had a good laugh together and he took us up our first fell! At the wedding he was always they're when you needed him, but had the skill of blending in/almost disappearing when we were in the swing of the party! We're so happy with our choicein Gavin. And we'd definitely recommend him.

We booked Gavin...
We booked Gavin, before venue was booked. He remembered us when he saw us at another fair before we booked him which was nice, he has that personal touch - it's like seeing a family member you haven't seen for a while, he puts his arms round you and wants to catch up over a cuppa and not just on wedding planning, on you both individually & as couple. He becomes friend, finding out your likes & dislikes. He's there to capture the day but we forgot that he just blender in & we were totally at ease

Working in the wedding industry myself...
Working in the wedding industry myself, I can happily say that Gavin is one of the best photographers I have ever worked with and am so happy he shot my wedding. His ability to make himself invisible to capture the real moments of the day is amazing. I didn't want all posed photos; I wanted the true story of what was happening at my wedding. He handled the group photographs brilliantly, very often times managing to make a joke when both mine, and my husband's families were being very annoying

Gavin understood our needs immediately...
Gavin understood our needs immediately! We were particularly choosy with the kind of photos we wanted, and Gavin executed our visions perfectly! We mixed our ideas with his, and he made us feel so comfortable with each meeting and discussions about the photos and on the day. Everyone commented on how perfect he fitted into our wedding and wasn't intrusive at all. You can see from our photos how at ease we were with him both getting ready, and during the ceremony and reception!

Gavin's friendly yet professional nature was evident at all times taking genuine interest in our plans and vision. Preparation for the day was brilliant, regular contact over email and he visited our family farm to see the reception and get some inspiration but more so to meet the family. At our Wedding Gavin was outstanding, capturing the important parts but also the special natural moments that we had no idea he was taking. Absolutely thrilled with our pics and could not have wished for more

Frequently Asked Questions

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Electrifying, Upbeat, Artistic, Authentic, Realism.

What about your business are you most proud of?

That moment years later when a couple reconnect with me to tell me a certain photograph means more to them now that ever. Often due to the passing of a subject. That moments trumps any other feeling and puts worth to all the travelling, time, pressure and such like of running this passion.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Do it your way! f**k what others think. A person may be annoyed with your for a week, months, years but time will forgive. You have the rest of your lives to be annoyed with yourselves for not doing it your way.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Meet, Dance, Drink, Eat, Repeat.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

The one where they are backflipping off the bar after having tequila poured from a balcony into their mouths!

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Embrace it. It is the UK we are talking about! chuck your hands in the air and bust a move with the folk who have been desperate to send some quality time with you! To me the weather, dress, how a table looks are not important factors. For me it's about that moment of time you spend with someone. It's enjoying those connections, friendships - life is precious and that moment of connection will be more appreciative as time goes by.

Describe how you got into photography.

I transitioned from film to stills. Ended up working at sea and from there my senior photographer (Jo) got assisting her weddings. we were forced to shoot a very rigid, old school wedding style and my mind exploded so when I left I set up my own wedding business and pushed for a day of greater fun, where the photographer was voyeur and captured the moments as they happened instead of making them.
