We haven’t hesitated to recommend you
Hi Mike, We just wanted to thank you so much for such a brilliant job last Sunday. We loved every second of the music, beginning with the ceremony and then for dancing in the Porter Tun. Our friends and family also had lots of fun on the dance floor and we have lost track of the amount of praise we have heard for Down for the Count. Everything was spot on. The brilliant rendition of I’m A Believer prompted some of our friends to start dancing and to get us dancing and that set the tone for the whole evening. The Jewish stuff was all great. I loved the clarinet. Hannah and Callum aced every song. You all really helped to make the party atmosphere we had been after. So thank you a lot for the combination of brilliant music and energy that you all brought to the evening. We haven’t hesitated to recommend you to anyone who has asked - not least because you were also a pleasure to deal with to the run-up to the wedding. We hope you get further business from guests at our wedding. Thanks again, and all best wishes.

Their communication was outstanding
"We were thrilled to have Down for the Count play for us. They were incredibly professional throughout all stages of planning. The whole process was clear, stress free and collaborative. The group made every effort to listen and accommodate our wishes, including rearranging a song for us - which was so special. Their communication was outstanding, we felt reassured that they could solve any issues on the day without disturbing us. It was a privilege for us and so memorable for all our guests!"

We had so much fun boogie-ing the night away
"Dear Mike, So sorry it's taken forever for us to send over our formal thanks, it's been a hectic couple of months! Thanks so much for all your help in planning the day, you were so efficient with helping us put together our perfect band and music. It made the process so easy. We had so much fun boogie-ing the night away with you and have had so many complements from our guests that they loved it too. Thanks again, and hope you had a lovely Christmas and all the best for the New Year."

The dancefloor was never empty
"Thanks you all so much for providing such amazing music and entertainment on our wedding day. It was always an essential that Down for the Count were part of our day (the date was even picked after making sure you guys were available!), because we both love you and we wanted to share your awesomeness with our guests. The dancefloor was never empty - showing how right we were - and everyone had the best time. Thank you so much! Thank you also for allowing me to sing with you - it was a definite highlight of my day and surprised a lot of people."

"Thank you SO MUCH for playing for us on Saturday. Everyone absolutely loved it and kept commenting on what a fab band you are. We are so grateful - it really made our day! I’m sorry I didn’t really get a chance to chat to you much or the band members on Saturday, but please extend my thank you and tell them they’re awesome!"

What is your most memorable wedding?

Anthony and Becky's wedding at Pinewood Studios - we were there on the same day that Johnny Depp was filming on the 007 Stage, although sadly we didn't bump in to him!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Energetic, stylish, versatile, professional, reliable

What about your business are you most proud of?

Down for the Count started as a group of school friends in 2005. This gives us a unique bond which comes across in each and every performance.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

We've written a whole series of articles to help couples plan their wedding - check out our website! Our number one tip - leave a bit of time (at least 30 minutes) between the end of the meal/speeches, and your first dance. At this time your guests have been seated for several hours so will likely want to stretch their legs, go to the bar, or catch up with other friends - and your fantastic, energetic party band may be playing to an empty room! We know that often your photographer is booked until the end of the first dance, so think ahead and book them for that extra hour (then you get lots of great party snaps too).

Describe your typical process with a couple.

We work with wedding couples to provide bespoke entertainment packages for wedding receptions, providing all the live music you might need for your wedding day - from ceremony musicians, background jazz bands, energetic function bands and auto DJ services. The process starts with an email or phone call where you let us know what you're looking for. We will then put forward an initial proposal for you to consider. We usually then schedule a meeting or call (potentially at your wedding venue) to finalise your perfect wedding music package. We ask for a retainer fee of 30% to secure the booking, with the balance due 10 working days before the event - but you can always make additions to your wedding music package up until the big day, subject to musicians' availability. We're then always at the end of the phone until the wedding day, making sure all the plans are in place for your special day. On the day itself, we come and find you to say hello when we arrive, then we stay out of your way - hopefully the only time you'll notice us is when we're playing the music!

What makes a romantic first dance?

A song that is personal and means something to you. We can learn virtually any song for your first dance, as long as it suits the instrumentation of the band. However, don't feel pressured to have a first dance - many couples choose not to, and it's no problem at all if you'd rather not have one. If you have a special song, you should also think carefully about whether or not you want the band to play it. It will never sound quite the same as your favourite recording and we honestly won't be offended if you choose to dance to an original recording instead of having us play it for you.

What is your number one floor-filler?

Dancing in the Street - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

Earth Wind & Fire

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
