What is your most memorable wedding?
Ooh that is tricky, I have been lucky enough to arrange many beautiful weddings but I think it was one where I worked as part of a team with 8 other florists. It took us three days to arrange. We had to make HUGE flower balls to hang in marquees and they really did weigh a tonne, it took 4 of us to try and life them up and hang them in place!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Country, Stylish, Affordable, Reliable, Honest
What about your business are you most proud of?
My biggest achievement is finally having my own shop. It is something I have dreamed of for so many years but never thought would really happen. Lucky for me, my brother had belief in me to live my dreams and helped me to set it up. I really cannot thank him enough and hope I do him proud. I am proud of how Old English Rose has grown over the last few years and to receive such wonderful reviews from my customers. I cannot wait to watch it flourish ever more over the next few years and look forward to working closely with many more bride's to come x
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Decide on your colour theme and style before visiting your florist. It is really tricky for a florist to help advise if you are not sure what you would like yet. Try and look at places such as Pinterest to gather ideas about what your dream wedding will really look like overall. Creating a mood board is a really good idea too.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I just love to see the flowers beautifully presented on the day. To me, presentation is just as important as the flowers themselves. I want them to arrive looking every bit perfect as they can possibly be.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I invite the couples to make an appointment with me so I can make sure time is set aside for them. We will run through ideas for the main bridal flowers and working our way through to the church or venue. We will discuss colours and style to make sure that we are both working together to make the end product just perfect. I will work out prices and e-mail the couple so they have time to sit and go over details in their own time before making their booking.
What is the most interesting thing you have put in a bouquet?
Ooh, I don't think I have anything unusual. Feathers, cones, twigs are generally the ones I get asked for but I am happy to incorporate anything into the flowers if I think it will work and look right for you. I want you to be happy with your flowers and will always say if I think something really won't work. Honesty is the best policy.
Is there a flower that has specific symbolism that you would recommend for couples?
There are so many beautiful flowers to choose from but Roses are always the most romantic ones for a special day. They say everything they need to say without words.
What is the most romantic flower and why?
Oh definitely roses. There are so many beautiful varieties available now for weddings. The large scented garden roses are just divine. I love how bride's are much more open to all the different colours and varieties now and willing to take your advice on them.
What should you do with the flowers after the wedding?
This is a very personal decision. I have had many brides who have taken their flowers to lay to rest with a loved one who has passed so they can be involved with their big day. So give them to elderly relatives or parents. I have a wonderful company who I work closely with that provides flower preservation. It really is a personal decision, so definitely have a think before the day.
