What is your most memorable wedding?
My Own! I had to twist my husbands arm to do a 6 minute mega mash up for our First Dance!!!! It was so hard to get him to agree to do it, but when we were in the lessons and learning this suppppper fun dance from our amazing teacher Sam, He LOVED IT! He's so happy we put the effort in to make this fun dance because all our friends and family were just blown away, laughed and cried all in one dance! It was the best!!!!
None of the couples I teach have asked me for a dance like this thought! I love giving them a simple romantic elegant dance that makes them feel super confident and in the moment for their special day. I have had the pleasure of doing some really fun up beat dances with some couples lately which has been a blast!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Elegant, Fun, Romantic, Confident, Malleable
What about your business are you most proud of?
Seeing the pure joy on couples faces when they have nailed their dance that they have worked hard to get right together for their big day.... but also seeing them giggle and laugh when they loose their footing, its priceless.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Even if you don't want a choreographed dance for your first dance. Just practice dancing together. Pop your song on in your kitchen and dance around together like no one is watching. That's what it should be like on your big day!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
The best personal touch is the song that you choose. The song that you choose for your first dance shouldn't be a soppy romantic love song just because that's what you think is called for.
It's a song that is meaningful to you both! No matter what style or genre that my be! If heavy metal is the thing that brought you together then heavy metal it will be! ;P
Describe your typical process with a couple.
They Enquire and I advise them on how many lessons they may need to get the desired dance they were after. We book in the dates for our lessons, making sure they are not too far apart but also not too close to the wedding. Then its time to dance!
The first lesson I will teach the basics of how to hold each other and mover around the dance floor together, then it will be time to put some moves along to their chosen song, that may take anywhere from 2-4 lessons, then a lesson or two to perfect it! Leaving them feeling super confident with the dance they have for their special day.
What is your No. 1 top tip for keeping a crowd entertained?
Not to just SWAY for 3 minutes straight!!! There is nothing more awkward then watching a couple stand there and sway for a whole song! Doing anything else then just standing there will be entertaining for your guests. Then it's up to you how impressed you want them to be. If you want some WOW moments you can always Waltz around the dance floor and even throw in a Lift, and always finish with a dip and a kiss! That's always a crowd pleaser!
Where is the most memorable place you have performed?
Me as a performer, I performed in many an amazing venue and am blessed for the experiences I have had.
But now as a teacher you still perform in a why, delivering your lesson is a way that is perfect for each different couple is an art in itself.
So the most memorable lessons was when a couple had their final lesson at my flat. It was so close to their wedding that I decided to surprise them with a few classes of Champagne! A few hours later we were still standing in the kitchen dancing and drinking.... it was lost of fun!
Have you had any interesting surprises at a wedding?
The surprises I get is when a video of their first dance makes its way back to me! I LOVE seeing the couples doing their dances, looking super beautiful and their guests loving it! But the biggest surprise was when I received a video and the Bride had not told me that her dress was very restrictive and that there was a massive amount of fabric at the bottom of the skirt! I had choreographed this dance that was now not feasible at all because the restrictions of her dress!!!!
The surprise was how well they covered it considering!
What is your party trick?
It used to be doing the splitz..... but not anymore!
