Full Description
‘Pasticceria’ is Italian for Patisserie and ‘Lorena’, well thats me! I am an Italian pastry chef with an inherent love of food, (particularly the sweet type) family, fun and I am a bit partial to a good glass of prosecco. My skills come from knowledge passed down through generations of my family, my love of recipe books and of course lots of practice. As a result I make authentic Italian cakes and pastries using the finest Italian ingredients, everything is made by hand from home as you can’t beat that artisan touch. My little Nottingham-based biz was born in 2014 when I swapped my performing arts career for my love of baking, and now I find great pleasure in helping couples think outside the box when it comes to their wedding cake. My clients are definitely foodies who don’t like icing and dare to say “arrivederci” to the traditional tiered wedding cake. Most of my work consists of a show stopping feature cake that is complimented by a selection of mouthwatering mini pastries, but my services do not stop at baking, working closely with a wedding stylist, I design and set up the complete bespoke display to suit the theme, style and colour scheme of your venue and day. My most popular cake is my traditional Italian wedding cake, layers of the lightest sponge soaked with a liqueur of choice and layered with lashings of pastry cream. These gateaux style cakes are decorated with creams, meringues, fresh, fruits, chocolate, flowers and pastries. For 2019 I have designed a new monogram version of this cake offering a personalised cake landscape. I love to be challenged so if you have an idea you want brought to life, just ask and lastly my mini pastries also make a great alternative to savoury canapés at your drinks reception.

Lorena did our wedding cake and dessert table for us in September 2022. We had the Italian lemon wedding cake and the dessert table had various pastries The dessert table was laid out beautifully and the pastries tasted absolutely incredible! The cake was our absolute favourite - we’ve never had cake like that before! All our guests absolutely loved the desserts and cake. A fantastic, professional and personalised service
Lorena made and created an amazing dessert table for our wedding. Everything was delicious and our friends/family keep telling us they want to try everything again. It was out of this world...heavenly!
Where do I begin....Lorena prepared us the most beautiful dessert table for our wedding in August. 4 mini desserts and a traditional Italian cake for our "cutting" cake... and it was out of this world, heavenly. She was wonderfully polite and presented the dessert table so brilliantly that all the guests commented. On top of all of the above, everything tasted bloody brilliant. Every step of the process was faultless, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lorena to anyone.

JUST WOW!!!
Just wow! Lorena's pasticcini and tortas are incredible! We have always loved going to Italy, especially enjoying the local cuisine. So when we heard about Lorena and that she catered for weddings it was a no brainer that we had to book her! She saw our vision perfectly and our wedding cake and pastry table couldn't have been more perfect for what we wanted. All of our guests said what a lovely idea it was to have a dessert table alongside our cake and that it wasn't something they had seen.....

We couldn’t have asked for more from Pasticceria Lorena. The service was impeccable from the beginning in the consultation stages through to the set up at Norwood Park, our wedding venue. Lorena took plenty of time to understand our vision for the cake, over Zoom calls and email. The consultation was also great, where she supplied us with cakes to taste at home in our own time. Lorena captured exactly what we wanted in the first design and the cakes looked outstanding on the day. She set them up in the background whilst we enjoyed our wedding breakfast to ensure they were not stood around all day. We barely noticed her she was so efficient and wished we had the chance to say thanks in person! What is your most memorable wedding?

My own of course! Oh sorry you mean, the ones I have worked on. I think it would be the first one I did a dessert table at for a bride whose family originate from the same village in Italy as my mum. She was so excited to have found a taste of Italy in the U.K. and the comments I got that day are what fuelled my determination to build my business.

Unconventional, unique, modern, striking and mouthwatering

What about your business are you most proud of?

For me it’s all about bringing joy to people with what I create, I am most proud of the reactions, compliments and amazing reviews I get from my clients as that’s what makes the hard work worthwhile.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Do it your way! Many people will give you advice about what you should have, what you should wear, what you need to do, what traditions you should follow, but it’s your day, so I say do it your way and make it personal to you.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

A bride who had made a floor runner to go down the aisle with a personal message hand painted on it. It was a message to her mum who was walking her down the aisle in the absence of her late father.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

It’s begins with a chat over the phone or email to establish, like, dislikes and a bit about the vision for the wedding. I then invite you to a consultation and tasting at my home, this is very relaxed over a coffee and you get to sample some pastries and discuss the finer details of your dream dessert table. After this I put together a full proposal and quote and you secure the booking by paying a deposit. About 3 months before the wedding I liase with you and the venue to finalise the intricate details and timings of the day. Full payment is made 1 month before the wedding and the week of the wedding the magic happens and you can enjoy your day, all you have to worry about is how you are going to stop yourself from eating all the cake!

What is your signature cake?

Italian wedding cake - a light sponge, drizzled with a vanilla liqueur and layered with vanilla pastry cream. Topped with Chantilly cream, meringues fresh fruits and chocolate

What is the most original creation you have baked for a wedding?

A cascading millefoglie (meaning a thousand layers) Italian wedding cake with an array of mini desserts displayed on an old farm cart turned bar with draped foliage and rustic backdrop. The guests commented on how different it was having pastry instead of cake, it was light and fresh, perfect for a summer wedding!

Describe how you got into making wedding cakes.

Baking is in my blood! being Italian I was brought up around great food and watching my family cook and bake using traditional methods. However I wasn't always a baker, I used to be a dancer and dance teacher! when my body told me it was time to stop dancing, I turned back to my heritage and started to spend more time in the kitchen experimenting. I began making cakes for my children and family birthdays and people began asking me to bake for their celebrations and so what was at first a hobby became a second career, however I knew I wanted to bring something different to the table and so combined my love of baking with my heritage to bring people an authentic taste of Italian patisserie. after a few years of establishing my business, I created a wedding dessert table for a lovely couple, the bride was Italian and wanted to bring some of her heritage to her wedding day, and it was this wedding that shaped the direction of my business. I absolutely loved the entire process from start to finish and I find it such a privilege to be entrusted to create cakes for couples special day.
