What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable wedding was last year 2021 in September. I love meeting my clients and have made friends with many however with this bride we instantly clicked which was really lovely. We didn’t know at the time but we had a few friends in common too. On the day of her wedding day when I showed her the finished makeup look, she looked at me and in her own words ‘wailed’ at me and said ‘I feel like I’m getting ready with my best friend!’. Not only did I feel overwhelmed with happiness but also felt so proud of myself for making my client feel so comfortable around me.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Classic, Flawless, Timeless, Personal, Soft-Glam
What about your business are you most proud of?
I’m extremely proud of how far it has grown and also how quickly. I started makeup in 2018 and that year solely was focused on building my social media pages, developing a kit in which I’m using high end products that I’m 100% happy with and would use on myself as well as practising skills. I’m forever grateful for my clients that have been loyal and supported me continuously.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
You can never book your suppliers too far in advance!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I love it when pets are accommodated at the wedding venue and included in the wedding day! I love all animals and can’t help but get excited when I see a dog being put into it’s personalised suit!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
When I receive an enquiry, we discuss many details regarding the wedding such as location, timings, availability, bridal party number, costs etc as well as any questions the couple may have. If the couple are happy to proceed and secure their booking with a booking fee, I then try to arrange the pre wedding makeup trial which is included in my bridal price. I include it deliberately for a number of reasons. I think it’s really comforting for both parties to meet before the wedding day and get to know each other more in order to build a relationship. Once that is booked, I then meet the couple for the first time in person on trial day. Sometimes bridesmaids or mother of the bride/groom would like trials also so they would be present too. Any inspiration photos of makeup or ideas they have can be shared before I start. I like to ask quite a few questions to understand the style they are wanting and also what they would usually wear on a day to day basis. We then take time to make sure the finished look is exactly how the bride wishes, any changes or alterations will be made to their personal preference. Discuss any pre wedding day timings or details and then everything is set ready for their big day!
On the wedding day I arrive and start with bridesmaids or mother of the bride/groom first, I always do the bride second to last but never last as this can cause some panic due to feeling like everyone else is ready except them. Once everyone’s makeup has been completed, I do touch ups and apply more lip product as usually they would have eaten/drunk during the morning. I then prep a pot of lip product and applicators for them to pop in their bags for the remainder of the day if I’m not present. I stay as long as I can be useful for, helping with finishing touches and popping on jewellery etc. Say my goodbyes and wish them all the best of their day. I like to catch up after a couple of weeks and ask how their day was. Also to check that they were happy with everything I provided.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing how much confidence it can give to someone and also how happy it can make them. Whether they are insecure about certain aspects of theirselves, going through a hard time in their lives and trying to pick theirselves up or they have never had their makeup done professionally before. It is the most rewarding feeling when you have been able to make someone happier and also being someone in which they can talk to about their problems.
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
Please do not change any of your skincare routine just before a wedding thinking it’ll make your skin better for on the day as it usually causes irritation or a breakout. Same goes with a facial of derma planning too especially if it is your first one!
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
I find that the trial really helps with this hence why I include it in my bridal price. On the day of the wedding everyone knows exactly what is happening and what to expect. The trial allows any changes to be made to your personal preference to make sure it is exactly how you wish it to be on your wedding day.
Other than the makeup, I can stay around to help in any way that I can once I have finished my work. For instance I’ve put on jewellery, button holes etc. I’ve even packed a baby’s changing bag for a bride when she asked once so she didn’t forget anything.
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
If you cry once your makeup has been completed, try to dab the tear rather than wipe it away as this will disrupt the layers of makeup applied. P.s I always use waterproof mascara regardless
