What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Take your time to carefully select your suppliers, it's not a process you want to rush and regret. Ensure you do your research and read their reviews!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Before the day of the trial, I encourage my clients to visualise how they'd like to look on their big day, suggesting to browse websites for inspiration such as Pinterest. I hope to stir up their excitement for the trial itself at which we can talk through ideas and preferences.
At the trial I ask a lot of questions to gain a thorough understanding of my clients' needs and preferences, to gain an insight in to them as a person, and of course to hear all about the wedding details! I use the trial as my opportunity to build a rapport with my clients, and with my love of teaching makeup application I'll find myself naturally talking through the process as I'm going, offering advice where it's needed and explaining 'why' and 'how' I'm using certain products in certain ways to compliment them as an individual. Bridal party makeups will also be discussed to give me a clear idea of what the bride wants for her bridal party, ensuring a smooth running wedding morning.
I let my clients know that if any tweaks need to be made to the look on first reveal that's absolutely fine, and reassure them that I will stay as long as necessary to ensure they're 100% happy with the final look. For this reason I do not allocate a set time for trials. Once the final look is decided upon, I take pictures and notes of exactly what products were used and how they were applied for my Wedding Day reference.
A few days before the wedding I text my clients a little message to remind them of my arrival time at the venue. As per the trial, I also text when I am on my way on the Wedding Day itself to help my clients feel relaxed on what can sometimes be chaotic mornings!
On arrival, I set up promptly and set to work on the previously worked out schedule.
Once all makeups are finished I always wait until the bride is in her dress to touch up the makeups if needed to ensure the whole bridal party look immaculate right up until the last minute. As a makeup artist, my job can quite often involve helping put the brides shoes on, doing up the dress, putting in the veil, dressing the flower girl, putting on the brides jewellery, making them breakfast, pinning the mums' button holes, the list really is endless. I go over and above the job description for my clients, because I just LOVE everything about my job and the wedding morning process, I am an extra pair of hands for absolutely any job I may be needed for up until I leave. I'll always check to make sure my brides makeup looks immaculate in the photographers lens as those are the photos which are going to last her a lifetime.
What do you love most about your job?
Getting to meet such a variety of people and designing individual looks to suit their exact needs. It's hard not to love a job where you're surrounded by people of the happiest day of their lives!
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
OIL! Ladies, whether you're a dry, oily (yes, really!), or combination skin type, now is the time to introduce a cleansing oil in to your current routine. I promise you, you won't regret it.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
Keep her laughing, and reassure her every step of the way.
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
A great makeup artist should ensure that minimal touch ups are required throughout the day, however for brides that may want to add a little extra drama to take their makeup from day to night, something as simple as adding a slick of liner to the waterline can work wonders...Or you can enquire about my Pro Touch Up Service :)
