Full Description
For a bit about Happy Pears: I'm a videographer, I've trained to Masters level in filmmaking and I come from a long background in music video and fictional production. I've always believed that having a good base is a strong foundation for inspiring my future work. If you watch all my videos, there's something you'll notice that's consistent across them all - there are a lot happy faces! Weddings are fun, I can't think of any other event with as much happiness in abundance. So many videos have that old fashioned slow, classical look that is just not my style of creativity. My videos are energetic and dynamic, this is the happiest day of your lives... my aim is to reflect this in my work. It's almost impossible for you experience everything at your wedding, which is why you'll see a lot of the guests in your video. The moment where the maid of honour shared a touching moment with a family member, where grandma and mother erupted into laughter over seemingly nothing, and when your best friends who haven't seen each other in what seems like forever come together to share stories. None of these moments are posed, they are all genuine accounts of your guests having the absolute time of their lives at your wedding. Only through video can these be experienced as vividly. This is why I chose to do videography, we're the only booking that can offer this much memory preservation. And once all the flowers are taken down, the food is eaten, the dancing danced and the wedding car has taken your home it is your video that you will keep and cherish forever.

Alex captured our day perfectly
Alex captured our day perfectly. He (and his second shooter) worked tirelessly from bridal preparations to the evening party and were completely relaxed and unobtrusive the entire time they were with us. We were blown away with the completed highlights video, which was with us before we even left for our honeymoon a couple of days after the wedding. It brilliantly conveyed the whole feeling and atmosphere of the day, allowing us to re-live the day each time we watch it. Alex cleverly managed to pick out which guests we spent the most time with over the day and made sure that it was these people who featured most heavily in our footage. We booked Alex after seeing the video he did for friends of ours. Now watching both videos we can see they are totally different, but both really suit our different personalities. Before the wedding and as the budget got tighter, we felt that the videography was probably one of the more frivolous decisions we had made on a 'non-essential' part of the day, but now looking back at what the finished product allows us to do in keeping those memories alive for years to come we truly feel that it was one of the best purchased that we made. It really brings out the true emotions, even to people who weren't there, in a way that the still photographs aren't quite able to do. Thank you Alex and Happy Pears for encapsulating everything we wanted to bring away from our wedding day.

What is your most memorable wedding?

I once did a wedding where everybody, and when I say everybody... EVERYBODY (bride included) during the dinner held their hands behind their backs and proceeded to eat their (messy) chocolate desserts without the use of their hands. Very messy. Very funny.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Unobtrusive / Natural / Dynamic / Fun / Cinematic

What about your business are you most proud of?

I’m proud of my highlights videos, I think they’re genuinely different. They’re not slow and drawn out... they’re fun for everyone to watch!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Apart from booking a videographer? Take time for yourselves, planning a wedding can be stressful. It’s important to take a step back and take a break from the planning. It will take the stress out and on the day, you’ll be more relaxed :). Me and my fiancé are planning a wedding, and there are 100s of suppliers in each category, find one you really like and arrange a video call to see if they are the right fit for your wedding.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

One wedding I shot had vinyls hung in front of the windows, it looked really cool (especially as the evening light poured in).

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I would always recommend a Skype call or even better a coffee or tea. It’s good to get to know who you’re working with (for both parties) and go over how everything works and answer any questions. Once you have booked, I’m always available for a chat but will get back in touch with you about a month before the wedding with some final details!

What is the most exciting thing you have caught on camera?

Not wedding related, but I filmed a Bar Mitzvah and the mother had a arranged a ‘Greatest Showman’ cover band to sing ‘The Greatest Show’ as he was a massive fan - and then he got up and joined them dancing and singing. It was awesome! Wedding related was during a speech, the best man had got Keith from The Office to record a message! The roof nearly toppled from all the laughter. Big fan.

What is the one film you wish you had directed and why?

How can I just have one?! The Truman Show - Because it’s an amazing story Jurassic Park - Because maybe I could have worked with Steven Spielberg and he’s my idol. Plus it has great visual storytelling. The ripple in the cup is such a genius idea. Fargo - Because yah.

What is your favourite soundtrack to put to a wedding video?

I like lively music, I try and stray away from songs that are slow and *overly* sentimental. Wedding days are fun, people are happy! Some songs can be downright depressing. That’s not the vibe I go for.

Describe how you got into videography.

I took a masters in film production and by chance, landed a gig filming a wedding. I went in with my own style because I didn’t want to be influenced by what was ‘on trend’ and people seemed to love it. The rest was history!
