WOW
Stayed here for a week at the beginning of August and it’s simply a beautiful, tranquil place to be. Situated right on the Dorset coast with amazing views in all directions. The property itself is magnificent and upon entering, feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The history of the estate and those that have lived there is displayed throughout, with plenty of memorabilia dating back hundreds of years which all adds to its charm. Would certainly recommend a stay

Magical Wedding
We have had the most magical wedding at Smedmore House. I can’t begin to describe the pure beauty of the house and gardens and how very special it was to be able to celebrate and exchange our vows in the gardens. Julie is warm, friendly and so accommodating for all friends and family. This has without doubt become our very, very special place. Thank you.

Piece of Heaven
A huge thank you from both families for what has been the most perfect wedding weekend for Dan and Abi. This really is a little piece of heaven and we will never forget either the comfort and peace of the house and the location or the wonderful hospitality of Julie who looked after us so well. PS We could stay forever!

Travel Notes

Smedmore is roughly 2 to 2.5 hrs by car from London, down the M3 and M27 to Wimborne and Wareham, then turn right off the Wareham bypass for Kimmeridge. Do not go to Corfe Castle. Follow the signs to Kimmeridge and just before you drop down into the village, turn left up up the private drive to Smedmore. Do not trust Sat-Nav for the final minutes of your journey, as the private drive is often not shown. Also do not rely on Google maps or The AA.com as they will take you through Kingston and Encombe along a bridleway which is not accessible to vehicles. Public Transport Directions By Rail There are trains direct from Waterloo, London, to Wareham twice an hour every day. The trip takes around 2½ hours with South West Trains. Taxis Rural Dorset has good taxi cover. Taxi firms will wait to collect passengers at Wareham Train Station and will collect from Smedmore House and there is also a local firm in the village. Taxis can also be booked for airport collections / departures from London Heathrow and Gatwick. See our website for further taxi Information.
