Nestled in the rolling hills near Beaminster stands Mapperton House & Gardens, Dorset’s finest country wedding venue. Our venue is perfect for couples who are looking for a personalised approach to their wedding with plenty of wow factor as well as practical solutions for every element of your day. Wake up in the double-aspect master bedroom of Garden Cottage at Mapperton on the morning of your wedding in the Garden Cottage, knowing at the end of the party you’ll stroll back across the lawn hand in hand reflecting on a wonderful celebration. We have four beautiful outdoor ceremony locations and three indoor licensed areas, including the Great Hall inside Mapperton House. After your exchange of vows, celebrate with drinks and canapes outside the chic vintage Orangery and enjoy far-reaching views through the gardens into the tumbling countryside beyond, a favourite spot for showstopping photos. Your guests will love wandering through the award-winning gardens and truly relax in the peaceful atmosphere at Mapperton. Lawn games welcome! As the afternoon lengthens lead your party over to our Coach House, where your Wedding Breakfast has space for up to 120 seated guests. This rustic barn has a modern, tonal feel as well as retaining heritage charm with original features. Banqueting tables and crossback chairs are included in your package although do hire round tables if preferred. We include a 60ft x 20ft Traditional Pole marquee in our packages and this is often set up beside the Coach House creating a mini fiesta feel to your evening party, especially with fire pits and festoon lights. There is additional space on the Croquet Lawn for a larger marquee reception. A 7.5m x 10m Stretch tent is also included for additional cover. The Mapperton Weddings and Venue Manager will seamlessly oversee your day, allowing you to relax and enjoy every moment. Mapperton is an unsurpassable location for your country wedding. Holly our amazing wedding coordinator was one of the reasons we chose the venue and is a true asset to Mapperton. She was there to take us through the whole process, and nothing was too big an ask. From day one of getting in touch, wedding coordinator Kat was so responsive and flexible around arranging a viewing for us. As soon as we walked around the house, across the pavilion lawn, and were presented with the stunning sunken gardens, we knew it was the venue for us! The team were great with planning the day with us, and allowed us to visit as often as we needed in advance. We were even able to drop some decorations off in advance for storage as we were travelling some distance from home, something Kat and the wonderful bar manager Emma arranged for us the week of the wedding. The venue were so flexible around our requirements. We could choose from a number of different ceremony, confetti, reception and meal location options to tailor our day. We opted for a pavilion ceremony, confetti under the pergola, drinks by the orangery, speeches on the central garden steps, and a meal in the coach house. It flowed well, and made the most of the whole venue. We also had the marquee as extra outdoor space for guests in the evening who wanted a more quiet space away from the music. It was also lovely having the wedding cottage onsite as an option to get ready and stay in. It was great to just have a short walk to the ceremony area (and back to bed at the end of the evening!) I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mapperton to any couple who would like an outdoor option. It really was the perfect day for us, and we couldn’t fault the team at all.We had what can only be described as a perfect day at Mapperton House & Gardens! Mapperton ticked all of those boxes and more boxes that we didn’t even realise! They don’t need to sell this place, the gardens just speak for themselves of how stunning they are, the rustic barn and the stunning house backdrop. The mapperton team were amazing in answering all our questions, reassuring on our reservations and being so flexible from the start when we booked all the way up til the day before on 25th June 2022. they don’t see weddings as ‘just another wedding’ they really care and want to make it bespoke to you. All of the local suppliers were incredible and were so flexible too in what exactly we wanted. All of our guests were blown away by the venue. If you’re looking somewhere with the wow factor, that isn’t pretentious, that really doesn’t need much decoration and where your photographer will be so excited (like ours was) to take your photos there - this is the place!We visited so many venues as we are we’re so picky with a long list of things we wanted out of a venue for our special day. Staying on site at the garden cottage was incredibly special. A tip for all future couples is to stay an extra night on the Sunday. By the Monday morning it was tough to leave but it is lovely to know that we can return to visit the gardens anytime and have anniversary stays in the cottage. Shout out to the bar staff who were good fun and ensured the evening party ran seamlessly! We can't thank Mapperton enough, we just wish we could do it all again! My favourite weddings are the ones that truly reflect the couple. It’s always special when everyone feels comfortable, present, and able to enjoy the day in a way that feels authentic to the couple.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
A great wedding tip is to plan the day around how you want it to feel, not just how it looks.
If the timeline, layout, and decisions reflect what matters most to you—whether that’s time with guests, a relaxed atmosphere, or meaningful moments together—the day will naturally come together and feel enjoyable rather than rushed. Guests always notice the mood of a wedding more than the details, and when you’re calm and present, everyone else will be too.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
A favourite personal touch at a wedding is when couples include something that tells their story in a subtle, natural way.
That might be handwritten vows, a meaningful reading chosen by someone close to them, a nod to family traditions, hand painted invitations and order of the days or even how they welcome guests at the start of the day. Those small, intentional moments often mean the most and make the day feel genuinely personal without needing to be over-styled.

Our 1930's Italianate gardens, I love the moment at a show round when we stop at the top of the gardens looking down the valley and really take in the peaceful, vintage splendour of Mapperton.
