This beautifully restored house with spectacular period rooms and villa style garden, makes for a unique, stunning backdrop for your wedding and celebrations. From the cosy, book lined Study, to the elegant Drawing Room, with its Boudoir Grand piano, both rooms provide a special space for your wedding ceremony. Both complete with Victorian fixtures and furnishings to suit your wedding party, these period rooms are perfect for the couple wanting something special and intimate, with plenty of charm. Should your wedding party be 10 or less (including the couple), William Gaskell's study is perfect for those wanting a small, intimate ceremony. The book lined walls provide a cosy, yet elegant feel to your wedding day, not to mention a fabulous backdrop for photos. If your numbers are higher, up to 35, the Drawing Room is the room for you. The Drawing Room includes use of a Boudoir Grand piano which may be played by an experienced pianist and Victorian furnishings that can be arranged to suit your wedding party. The couple are married in front of the original sash windows, overlooking the glorious Gaskell garden. Following the ceremony, we can provide a drinks reception in the hall allowing your guests to explore the other period rooms, such as, The Dining Room, which is where Elizabeth wrote her famous stories and letters. The beautifully restored gardens with its mix heritage and native planting schemes also offers another option for your drinks reception and is a charming backdrop for wedding photographs. The Servants Hall and Tea room, which would have been the former kitchen, provide a lovely space for a wedding reception. Whether that be a traditional afternoon tea, a buffet or a formal sit-down meal. Mismatched vintage crockery & table cloths are available to hire. The house also has a fully licenced bottle bar and is fully accessible with lifts & ramps on site. On street parking is permitted in the area for 3 hrs in the week & is free at weekend.

The perfect venue for a wedding
Wow, what a venue. Guests also loved the opportunity to have a walk around the house. The staff were outstanding throughout the planning process and on the day. Also they went well beyond the call of duty by fetching 2 guests who had got themselves lost enroute. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you book Elizabeth Gaskell's House for your wedding, you will not be disappointed.

Perfect venue for a small intimate wedding
If you are looking for a perfect venue for a small intimate wedding then this is the place. Beautiful house and surroundings and Katie and her team worked really hard on the day to ensure everything went like clockwork. It also reduced our stress levels knowing that Katie was ahead of the game with timings and also contacting our wedding suppliers. We were able to dress the rooms exactly as we wanted and had access the day before to ensure everything was in place and ready for the following day. I also made use of the lovely bedroom upstairs to change into my wedding dress, and prepare/keep calm for the ceremony! All our guests complimented our choice of venue and we would highly recommend. 'the value for money is incredible'
We loved using Elizabeth Gaskell as our venue! It holds up to 35 guests and the value for money is incredible (compare it to other venues and you'll see why!). The venue team were lovely; be aware that they only work/open on certain days so if you need to make a visit there it may be on a weekday. They were really accommodating in terms of accessibility for elderly/disabled guests and even helped us with some tricky chair sashes. Really appreciated their help and would like to visit again in the future.

A beautiful venue
We had an amazing day at Elizabeth Gaskells house. The value for money was unbelievable and the experience did not feel cheaper than any other wedding I have been to. The venue is beautiful and has gorgeous period features and furniture. Everything in the run up was very smooth, even with a change of wedding coordinator mid way through or planning- we were never left feeling forgotten about and both Ellen and then Katie were so helpful and kind to us. We were able to go to the venue the day before the wedding to set up, at no extra cost and when we went to tear down the following day- Katie and her team had already cleared everything and had it ready to go in boxes for us. We had an amazing day and are so thankful to the entire team at the house.

Amazing venue for an amazing day
The venue was a 'yes' as soon as we walked in the door. Beautiful period house and decor. We were looked after brilliantly by Katie, the wedding organiser, both before and during the day of the wedding. We felt lucky to celebrate with Katie and two of the volunteers (Cath and Jane? Sorry ladies, my mind was elsewhere!) who were responsive, friendly and kind. We had the best time. I recommend 100%.
