Full Description
To create your dream wedding you require a fairytale location. New House Farm situated in the stunning Lorton valley and surrounded by the Lakeland Fells is that unique and special place. Originally built in 1650, New House Farm has retained many of its original features but combines them with a touch of elegance and sophistication to create an atmosphere of a bygone era. Sitting rooms with open log fires, individually designed bedrooms with heavenly beds, delicious duvets and wonderful changing views go to create this unique private venue. The secluded gardens, babbling brooks, enchanting pond and stunning Lake District scenery add the finishing touches to a fairytale wedding and provide the perfect backdrop for memorable romantic photographs. The wedding receptions are held in The Hayloft of an original Lakeland barn which has been restored to the highest standards with traditional materials. Bright and airy with a graceful combination of rustic chic and modern facilities the oak beams are offset by the natural exposed stone walls. The Hayloft can cater for up to 130 people with the added benefit of having its own professional kitchen. This stunning blank canvas allows you to put your style and mark on your special day. Exclusive use will provide you with two nights of accommodation in our bespoke country house. New House Farm is a perfect location for your winter wedding. Surrounded by stunning scenery, rolling hills that go on for miles, what better setting could you ask for of crisp snow-topped mountains and glistening waters. Our winter weddings run from November until mid-March, at a reduced costing. For smaller weddings we offer a mid-week wedding package which is available at a reduced cost. You will have access to the barn from Sunday Afternoon until your special day to decorate how you please. For intimate weddings with up to 20, our licensed room within our country house will create the perfect backdrop for your special day.

The best day of our lives
We were lucky enough to be able to have our wedding at New House Farm on the 19th December. Although this was not the date (or the numbers) we had originally planned, Hazel was with us every step of the way and made it possible for us to have the most magical day! New House Farm and it's location are absolutely stunning. There is always a warm welcome and a wonderful breakfast ☺ we wouldn't hesitate to recommend New House Farm to anyone looking for a romantic and very special wedding venue. We feel incredibly grateful to have been able to end our year on a real high and that was down to Hazel and her team who made the day possible at such short notice! Charlotte and Andy x

You won't get a better setting in the Lake District than this!
New House Farm is such a beautiful venue in the most wonderful Lake District setting. While we were gutted that we were unable to have our beautiful winter wedding there this year, Hazel kept in communication with us throughout and fully understood our position, offering us a full refund when it became clear there was no way we would be able to go ahead. We have no doubt that she would have made our day so special and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a Lake District venue, you won't get a better setting in the Lake District than this!

The most amazing wedding venue
We’d planned our wedding reception in The Hayloft for 19th Sept 20, everything was on track, we were getting so excited and then covid hit and put a stop to our plans. We were so devastated, Hazel was just fabulous during this time, we were in touch constantly, she kept us up to date with current guidelines and reassured us as much as she could! We did get married in Sept and we had the most fabulous day in spite of everything. Hazel helped to make sure of this! We stayed here at New House Farm B&B. Hazel was so accommodating with welcome drinks and sandwiches, allowing us our professional photos in her gorgeous grounds and supplying us celebratory drinks into the night surrounding the newly installed fire pit with our nearest and dearest friends & family. If you’re browsing for wedding venues then call off the search, this is the one!! The Hayloft is absolutely amazing, we’re so sad we didn’t get to use it! The surroundings are just breathtaking- our wedding pictures are stunning. And Hazel is the cherry on the cake, she is truly fabulous at what she does, she’ll ensure you both have the best day imaginable.

Thank you for your help in this journey
Hi Hazel, I hope you are well. I am contacting you to arrange our refund please for the wedding on September 12th. As per your last email, very little has changed the government guidelines still only offer a wedding of 30 or less, with social distancing measures in place (which to me doesn't sound like a very fun wedding)! I'm sorry it has come to this, obviously we chose your venue because we saw something special, the lakes, the views, the rooms...what more could you ask for it is just such a shame that unfortunately we cannot go ahead. I'd like to thank you for your help in this journey, and wish you all the best for the future - hopefully you will be back doing what you love very soon

Travel Notes

By car Some Sat Navs take you a very strange way and in fact lead you to a farmhouse four fields away. Sadly, in the countryside you can’t rely on being taken straight to the correct door. Postcodes will get you to the general vicinity and some even mange to bring you straight here, but they seem to go berserk about a couple of miles out. Bring back the good old map I say! Try Google Map searching for ‘New House Farm’ and the post code ‘CA13 9UU’ and that should work. Otherwise For anyone travelling from the North or South, exit at junction 40 of the M6 and head west to Keswick and Cockermouth on the A66. The road bypasses Keswick and about 2 miles further on there is a road going left over Whinlatter Pass on the B5289 which takes you over to Lorton. Continue along this road for about 4 miles until the T junction then head left for Lorton – the SAT NAV will try to tempt you off to the left down various narrow roads before you get to this T junction – do not be tempted. Do not take any further turnings, just follow the road. Carry on through the bottom end of Lorton and down the valley for about 2 miles. New House Farm is on the left-hand side with a Cumberland or a St George flag flying (depending on how I am feeling). There is a big sign for New House Farm, a large barn, an off-white house edge in black and probably horses or sheep in the field. By train The nearest Railway Station is Penrith and the journey by car from there takes between 30 and 40 minutes
