Describe your typical process with a couple.
The Toastmaster is there to enhance the day, adding extra personal touches throughout that make it all the more special for the happy couple and for their guests. For me, being a toastmaster is about making special memories for people. I would always recommend the happy couple to check that their Toastmaster has a background in entertainment or public speaking and that they have received formal Toastmaster training.
I am an added formality who can act as an extra pair of hands, not only helping to organise the day, but keeping guests entertained, helping the photographer by gathering guests for formal photos and assist the preparation of the reception drinks to liaising with the kitchen staff, the ushers, the happy couple, to announcing the wedding meal, the speeches, cake cutting, and the first dance including chatting to guests, the job of a toastmaster is very multifaceted, but I enjoy every moment and tailor what I do according to each couple’s wishes, and can be as involved or not, as they wish
The couple always has a lot of input into what a toastmaster does. We meet approximately two weeks before the big day and talk about how they would like the day to run; I have a checklist I like to go through that helps them to decide how to structure their special day and for me to allow the day to run smoothly on time with no Hic ups. I also have a great sense of humour, so by having my services as a Toastmaster, you know there is never going to be a boring moment
What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?
Organising a 5th year school Prom
How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?
It would be nice to think that after all the planning of your special wedding day the celebration would just roll along without a hitch, each participant being where they should be at the right time, and each stage of the proceedings leading seamlessly to the next.
It doesn’t quite happen like that, which is why most events require someone to co-ordinate and direct proceedings, announcing each different stage of the day or evening and making sure that everybody’s in the right place at the right time.
Enter the Toastmaster. Wearing the Red coat and looking rather dapper only he can give you the stress free peace of mind all of you’re planning and dreams deserve!
