I'm Sophie and I've been running Sophisticated Shindigs for over 10 years now. I started the business when my son was small - and since then it's grown even more than he has! We now have one of the biggest décor ranges in the region and have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of couples. What makes me happy is making YOU happy. I love realising a couple's dream for their big day and nothing beats that smile and that 'wow' when you walk in.

Absolutely stunning
We had Sophisticated shindigs decorate our wedding venue on 23rd July. It looked absolutely stunning and just topped it off to look the way we wanted it to. The colour was perfect for our colour scheme we chose. I would highly recommend Sophie as she was great and kept us updated. Thankyou 👍😊

Frequently Asked Questions

What about your business are you most proud of?

Our commitment to quality and attention to detail. We take great pride in our work and want every wedding to be finished to the highest standard.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Make contact with your potential suppliers early. This allows you plenty of time to discuss ideas and figure out which companies are the fit for you. It also means the more popular suppliers are more likely to have your date free - so you won't be scrambling to find what you want as the big day approaches.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

We see a lot of interesting and very individual personal touches at our weddings and we love to see our couples put their own stamp on things. My personal favourite little touches have been Twinings tea boxes used as tea party centrepieces (displayed on our rustic tree slices); and a table full of delectable baked goods at one wedding which were made by the bride herself - including the wedding cake! I was also very taken by a table plan based around Hull's historic pubs, the oldest of which dates back to the 1300s.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

Most of our clients contact us online, either by email or through social media. We then discuss ideas and propose several suggestions to suit the couple's theme. Once we're clear on the desired result on the day we provide a bespoke quotation to our clients and guide them through the booking process. In the run up to the wedding we offer another consultation to finalise numbers and confirm all details for the big day. When the wedding day comes along we take care of the delivery, setup and recovery of our hire items so the couple can enjoy a stress-free day.

What is the best themed wedding you have worked at?

In 2016 we worked with a couple who chose a maritime theme for their wedding. We dressed the room using navy fabrics and had helped assemble centrepieces made of sand, ships and shells. The cake was displayed on a ship's wheel, which we thought was FAB! 2015's favourite was a Halloween wedding which we dressed in burnt orange. There were pumpkin centrepieces, horror movie photo booth props, and a balloon groom in the style of Jack Skellington.

What are the decorative trends with brides currently?

Vintage is in. We're enjoying using our lace and chiffon linens to create soft, stylish settings for our brides and grooms. We also love using our classic silver candelabras to lend a bit of old-style glitz and glamour.

What decoration do you think every wedding needs?

Chair dressing. Due to the high turnover of popular wedding venues, the furniture often suffers a lot of wear and tear. Chair covers hide a multitude of sins - from stains, to tears, to mismatched upholstery.
