As a self-taught chef Tom, originally from Guildford in Surrey, moved to London in 2005 to gain experience in a busy professional kitchen. Working at the renowned Alastair Little’s on Frith Street in Soho under chef and mentor Juliet Peston, Tom soon worked his way up to Head Chef. Following a short stint working with Jacob Kennedy at Bocca di Lupo, Tom went on to head up the kitchen of a small Venetian-inspired restaurant on Beak Street, called Polpo. Polpo introduced the European ‘small plates’ menu concept to the London dining scene, earning plaudits from critics and customers alike for Tom’s inventive sharing menu. Tom moved on from Polpo after five years to open his own restaurant, leaving as Chef Director.
He opened the eponymously titled OLDROYD on Islington's Upper Street in 2015. Serving European-inspired small and sharing plates, staying true to British seasonal produce, the neighbourhood restaurant was an overnight success, with high praise from the industry's restaurant critics and earning its place on various London's 'top restaurants' lists.
Three years after opening OLDROYD and with almost 20 years’ experience within the hospitality industry, Tom then re-opened the historic The Duke of Richmond, an 85-cover public house & dining room, on Hackney's Queensbridge Road which is also available to hire
