Its genesis in fact lies in the vestiges of sacred origins. Palazzo dei Mercanti lived its first days as an important convent behind the main square and at the heart of social power. In the restoration work, all the elements of the sacredness of the structure were preserved, keeping its ancient and magical meaning intact.
As usual, even Ascoli Piceno in its first forms of urbanization was structured around the two nerve centers that managed life within the city: political and religious power. As the centuries passed, however, a new social class established itself more and more strongly: that of the Merchants. Born as a purely nomadic activity, that of the Merchants developed over time within its own spaces and buildings designed to constantly host the trades, demonstrating the growing importance acquired in society.
The Merchants thus began their evolution from migrants to settlers, establishing themselves among the cornerstones of earthly power. Rooted in a remote place, enclosed between rivers and mountain ranges, the population of Ascoli Piceno quickly developed its own specific and determined sense of belonging, giving life to an authentic cultural integrity.
